Whether article marketing works or not depends on how you go about it.

1. Select article directories that have good pagerank, and provide dofollow links
2. Write highly informative articles that are likely to be picked up by on-line publications
3. Use keywords in the link text in your sig file
4. Above all, continue adding articles on a regular basis; results take time

Links in the body might not be permitted. Check the directory rules.

Yeah, thanks, I know the basics och article writing and SEO, I´m more looking for opinions about serps.

Doing seo is not that easy. Quality should be maintain in making an Article because it is the key to success. Therefore, big chances that you'll be a topnotch.

Gopinathan T, sorry if my answer sounded rude. You are very right and your answer is informative. Let me express myself clearer: I am doing some social bookmarking for backlinks at the moment (as one of several methods, been doing it before but developed a new way of using social sites) and noticed an quite immediate change in the serps for my site (there was a great discussion about it here, will come back to you all on that one). I used to do article marketing, but decided that my writings would do more use on my blog. Well, I now just started to think that I might give article writing a shot again and just wanted to know your experiences with it, when it comes to google rankings for keywords on your own site.

Jenie0109, I´m sorry if I offended you somehow, that was not my attempt. I have done this for a while and I´m starting to do fairly well, at least so I can make a living nowadays. I know I will probably never be topnotch, but I´m trying my best and I´m working har do learn everything I can.

Social bookmarking can definitely bring immediate results. Article marketing is long-term (and old-fashioned; people like to go social bookmark sites and contribute their two bits rather than read articles these days).

However, if you work at article marketing systematically and regularly, providing good information and also using keyword rich link text, it can definitely help improvement in SERPS. The question here is painstaking effort - writing good articles and relevant keyword link texts - and patience.

As to comparing it with social bookmarking, I have no data to answer the question.

Ok, I see. Seem logial that people spend time on social sites nowadays, that´s a good point. I used to do article marketing quite heavily a couple of years ago, but when I started to work with blogs instead of static websites, it seemed to be better to put my time and effort on the blog and put my writings there. But I got curious again if I missed something out on the article marketing thing. I have spent most of my time on my site, writing and doing some more writing. Worked quite good, but I got stuck at one point and traffic was not increasing. I did some social bookmarking, but was concentrating more on direct traffic from stubleupon and a couple of more, I got traffic, but it converted very poorely, so it didn´t seem worth the effort in my case. I started a while go to add my pages on a bunch of dofollow social sites, not spending a lot of time on them, just adding a page every day. And was pleasantly surprised to see how my blog climbed in the serps.

I haven´t worked that much with keyword-rich texts with nested links pointing to my own blog, so I just thought that maybe I should look into that more too, that´s why I started to think about article marketing again.
I noticed an interesting yesterday though, when I did some experimenting: I have one of those free popular blogs, that I´ve been writing some short texts on and linking to my "real" blog on my own server, every now and then. Yesterday I wrote two longer keyword rich articles, linked to my blog from all over the text. Today I noticed that when searching in google, that the on the first keyword, my site jumped from page 6 to page 2, the other one from 20 to 11. They are both highly competitive and not even long-tail. The thing is that I did no social bookmarking yesterday, I just wrote the usual 3 articles for my own blog and then this. Might be then, that it would be better to open one more blog like that and write for that one every now and then with nested links.

...and the thing is, if your article is not unique and cannot catch attention, no one will visit your site that is linked at the bottom of your article... they don't even finish reading it..

I think you are neglecting one important link source, forum posts. I can't see any link to your blog or website here. Many forums permit dofollow links, and the high PR of the forums can make the links worthwhile.

Submit to:

1. EZA
2. Web 20 sites (squidoo,...)
3. Other article sites
4. Every where you can

5. Submit 'rewritten' version of your articles from time to time as well.

6. Submit videos as well.

7. Submit on your blog.

8. Submit your articles as mini posts in forum in your niche

With this, you will get a serious boost in the serps.

Article marketing is a great way to raise your ranking SERPS, which can help you increase your website traffic and ranking. You can include links to various pages in your site as you go through the content, it can be done in the article itself or in the signature block of the author depending on the rules of directory.
Make sure your content is fresh and informative, Then you are using different keywords for each article.
