Few Questions Post PR Update

So I have a site that went from pr5 to pr6 with the latest PR update, but its MosRank is only 4.3. How much stock do you guys take in MosRank numbers?
Also I have a site that I removed from the index a few months ago, but upon changing its content and resubmitting it to the index, it has retained its pr4 status? Anybody ever heard of anything like that?

I'm beginning to trust Mozrank over Pagerank because the latest update has several PR4s I was watching retain their toolbar PR despite having no links. SEOmoz has a vested interest and business model to provide up to date and accurate data. Google has an interest in keeping link and domain sellers in the dark and in some cases even operating with inaccurate data.

I don't think google is releasing false data its just that they have no motivation to keep it fresh. Even when they do an update it appears they use data that might be weeks or month old. Mozrank is updated now every few weeks. sometimes usually every month. while Google is 4 times for the year and SEomoz has stated their numbers ARE based on fresh crawls. Its pretty obvious to me monitoring hundreds of domains that Google's numbers in the PR toolbar are not

SEOmoz have spent an incredible amount of time and effort getting their tools out there and making them the best around. Mozrank is a good metric to benchmark with.

PR is not a great benchmark to follow (and loads of people obsess over it). Google does not update it that often and I would say, it is moving away from it having much importance at all (precisely because it is all people obsess over). Mozrank is a good one if you really want to slap numbers on things.

Personally I would suggest you just think about your traffic and conversions, those are the two really important things!

The problem with MozRank is that their site assessment is waaay slower when it comes to devaluing backlinks that no longer exist. So many pages will still have strong MozRanks because of links they had once upon a time. Many sites that I only linked with BMR still have great MozRanks and their links don't even exist anymore.

With that said I don't trust PageRank or MozRank and much prefer to look at the backlinks myself and make an assessment.

I've found the exact opposite. I see quite a few no backlink pages that still have PR3s and Up while Mozrank accurately indicates they are zero or near zero. Now theres no doubt Google has a larger index than Seomoz and they miss a lot of backlinks especially for lower authority pages (Perhaps that leaves them sometimes not recrawling some pages that previously had links)

Still like you said I don't entirely trust either of them but with Mozrank I know its in their best interest to provide up to date and accurate information because their business model is to get money from the SEOs not adwords advertisers. Google has no vested interest in keeping external toolbar Pagerank accurate. In fact if there wasn't thingks like Mozrank out there I suspect they would have scrapped showing public pr entirely and left link sellers and buyers totally in the dark

I tend to go with MozRank simply because you have the decimal places and they update their index more frequently. Keep in mind that both are logarithmic so it takes way more juice to go from 4.3 to 4.5 than going from 2 to 3.
