I have a dentist client in allentown but they also want to come up in the surrounding 4 towns. What is the best way to optimize a site foultiple towns for a dentist in one town.

The main site will be optimized for Allentown dentist as well as other keywords related to Allen town and his dental practice. But how do i set up the other towns? I think it wouldn't be correct to set up other pages saying Town "B" dentist, Town "C" Dentist, Town "D" dentist. Because my client is not located in those towns and the person searching for a dentist in Town "b,c or d" will have to got to Allentown.

What is the best way to set this campaign up?

Hope that makes sense, any help will be much appreciated!

Best,
Greg

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but there is nothing at all tricky about this. If you need to rely on the keywords being in the URL or domain, you might want to rethink offering your services as an SEO. Please tell me you are not recommending that they build their website on some silly domain like www. allentowndentist.com. Well, unless that is actually the name of their business. I hate when I see SEOs do that to clients.

It's really just a matter of attracting/building good backlinks.

I wonder how many people would feel duped if they know their
"professionals" are just asking stuff on the WF.

Any real SEO person would have at least 12 answers. I can think of
at least 5 right off the top of my head.

I cannot fathom, however, why a dentist would need to rely on
SEO for patients. Professions like that have multiple ways of
advertising. A website and SEO would be a non issue.

One more reason why google has been going local for most
searches like that. Makes sense to me. Oops! Let one slip.
The dentist should be on google maps, no SEO needed.

I guess the two dental practices I work with should fire me then.

Sorry, Paul, but it is a little more complicated than just picking a spot on Google Maps when there are upwards of 15 dental practices competing for business in a 30-mile radius. Targeting 45+ keywords is not going to work with just claiming a pot on a map.

Also, what about branding? If I can not only get my client's website to rank #1 for relevant terms, but also have their Facebook page, and a YouTube video both on the first page as well, which practice do you think a potential patient is going to choose?

I would suggest four different domains, ultimately pointing to one central domain. Have the four diff domains targeting the specific cities/towns.

If you want additional domains to take up more SERP real estate, that's fine. However, a real offline business should have a main website that ranks in their market, however many towns that is. It's about building a brand name and brand recognition.

When I search for dentist chicago the #2 position is a regular dentist website (hxxp://www.strobeldentistry.com/), the local 7-pack is below the 2nd organic search listing.

When I search dentist 60602, that same dentist site is #1 organic, again with the local 7-pack below him in the SERPs.

I doubt the dentist is ranking #1-2 by accident, that's SEO being done.

If I was a dentist with a site I wouldn't want to be mixed into that 7-pack with all the competition, I would rather be listed above the 7-pack. It's bad enough Adwords is above organic.

    Just saying...

Actually, its pretty common now a days to target the surrounding cities too. For example, when the client is from Rotterdam, its common practice to target Amsterdam too, since people from Amsterdam maybe interested in his services too.

So, one thing you have got to do is to optimize the homepage and have the city names and the keywords on the content and Meta tags, for example:

"We are professional dentists based out of Allentown, with customers from town1, town 2, town 3, etc."

This way, your content or the tags are optimized for your keywords as well as for the town names.

Moreover, as far as the SEO process is concerned, you are pretty lucky to target keywords with the town names in it instead of just targeting "dentist" or "professional dentist" or "experienced dentist".

    Hope it helped...

If I understand correctly the question you could just add those service city pages and rank those.
