Is there like a free domain or something that I can use as like my "SEO project"? Just a project where I wanna see if I can rank something as number 1 in google before I actually buy a domain.

    You should start with something easy. Youtube videos are easy to rank, also Blogger blogs and Squidoo lens. Practice your SEO skill on something that Google loves and give attention.

    Don't spoil your time for something that will not give you money. Purchase one domain and work for that. Even if you fail to bring that in the no. 1 place, if you able to bring in the first page of Google search result, it will be more helpful for you. Through actual working, you can learn what to do, to come to the no. 1 place in Google search.

      I agree with you mate. Linkbuilding is time consuming so if your going to try purchased first the right domain.

    I remember when I really wanted to start SEO but I didn't want to spend money on a domain and hosting in case I made a mistake and things went wrong.

    But thats OK, you need to just go for it! The mistakes you make when you set up your first site are the most valuable experiences in IM. All true veterans have made hundreds of stupid mistakes along the way, but we learn from them and succed.

    You can do it, just take a chance! It will be worth it!

    If you want to learn SEO by your own then you can create a blog on a free blogging website like Wordpress and blogger. You can do all kinds of experiment on them and measure the results.

    Got to disagree with the ranking a youtube video to learn SEO. You are not learning SEO that way only some backlinking. Use Blogger or another WEB 2.0 where you can work on your on page skills and linkbuilding.

    Well, just read some forum sites on how to optimize your website. I think, more or less, 1 month you will know how to deal with those techniques. Training, learning, and researching by yourself is a free way to practice SEO.
