Authority Site Advice

So I'm trying to move away from smaller niche site to a larger authority site. Was wondering whether I could get any advice from successful IMers with authority sites.

Is the only difference between niche sites and authority sites the scale? So I could apply all the techniques I've used (quite successfully) with niche sites on an authority site but more of it?

Lastly can anyone point me to a good ebook that will help. There seems to be a lot of information on these forums regarding niche sites but not as much regarding authority sites.

Cheers
Ian

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'm just trying to work out the structure of the website before I start padding out with content. Have you guys had experience with silo structures?

The most important part in creating an authority site is the branding.

No more EMDs, you have to create a brand that people will remember and search for.

My whole business model is authority sites. The scale is typically the major difference but remember, you can build a 5-page site that's an "authority" in a niche. That said, it's unusual.

I prefer to build larger sites (50-100 product reviews) on a brandable domain (no EMDs). Many of my sites rank very, very well and require very little manual backlinking since I target low competition products.

The best part is that I often get TONS of traffic from sites like slickdeals, fatwallet, woot, and others because people on those sites reference my sites when looking for product info. That, to me, is what an authority site is all about.

Wolf, I read a lot of your posts and your blog! First of all thanks for the value you're offering! One question though, what designs are you using for your amazon sites?

I use my own back-end review system that I've integrated with most of the theme-junkie themes. Each site contains multiple review layouts so my sites don't look like cookie-cutter sites.
