Are one page websites bad?

One page websites are not necessarily bad. If you know what you're doing, you can get ranked for your specific keyword and get traffic.
2500 words is a lot... Is there a way maybe you could split it in 2 or 3 articles?

I've made such one page site few days ago and started getting Organic visitors within 7 days of it. Content matters, not the size of the site.

Focus on good user experience, and a 1 page site of 2500-3000 isnt going to be the best for that. At worse split the article into 2-3 smaller articles so that its easier for the user to digest and navigate.

Think of it this way.

1. If you spend a good amount of time and effort on the project to make the 1-page site a quality product, then its going to be a bad long term investment when your niche becomes competitive. Or you simply wont rank.

2. If you don't spend any time or effort making sure your 1-page site is of a good quality, then you're not really adding any value to users and the internet. You are affectively just spamming, and ultimately it will not be a good investment. Keep in mind the direction that Google is taking the internet in.

Personally I wouldnt make a site that has less than 5 x 1000 word articles plus standard privacy and contact pages etc.

In short: Avoid 1 page sites.

One page site with too much contents are not user friendly and quick navigating. As an user, I dislike one page sites. In SEO perspective, there should not have any issue.. But you should keep the thing in mind that user experience is an important aspect always.

If you are building the site and expecting it to rank well amongst high competition keywords then yes, it is bad.

If you are using paid sources to drive traffic then no.

Build a site that enhances the user's experience and makes them come back for more.

It all depends on what your aim is with the site.

a very mixed response here. im still unsure.

i have many many websites all are decent in traffic however im looking at monetizing on a highly competitive niche on this new project.

ok so its a clickbank product. almost all the high gravity clickbank product pages have literally one long page of text and then an add to cart at the end. i was going to replicate that format. i guess it must convert well because thats the layout that they all are.

hmm. how about if a did the 1 page thing, and then after 2 months if traffic was bad could i split them off into multiple pages without any detrimental affect?

Google seems to have done ok with a 1 page site.

The real disadvantage of a 1 page site is the lack of internal linking. I believe internal links get weighed pretty heavily.

There are a lot of 1 pages sites out there doing pretty well though.

One problem with single page sites is bounce rate. If you only have 1 page then it by nature has a high bounce rate. Google apparently doesn't like that.

*laughs* First hand experience, Google hates a high bounce rate

I have read where some sites get a pass on bounce rate but they are usually like wiki and such where it is expected. (This has been my learning lesson for the week it seems)

  A one page website can achieve decent rankings if it is well optimized and provides useful content. However, you should split the 2,500-3,000 word post into smaller articles. This way you can target different keywords and make the posts easier to read.

I advised a client to build a 1 page website to target the keyword "Flights", and of course the thousands of sub keywords.

Guess what, it's 7th for the keyword "Flights" now, in the UK. It's about 17th on Google.com.

1 page sites work just fine, if you know what your are doing.

One page website isn't bad because size of website wasn't matter to better rank but the contents are much matters that's why make your website content unique, informative and interesting.

I don't like the 1 page sites. Every people come to a website to gather some information. if they see that its just to sell something, not to help him then it will never last for a long time. that's the reason I don't like it.

With reference to the one page site I mentioned above for comparing flights.

Of course, if you happen to be in the market for a Cheap Flight you only need so much information?

1 page is fine, this one is a clever page.

It works like this, it tries to "guess" your departure airport and destination, plus date of travel etc.

It usually knows your keyword, thanks to Google plus it 70% of the time knows your location from your IP address or GPS location if mobile, and hence your nearest airport. It knows the most common flights from every airport, the most commonly searched for flights and the prices / carriers for those flights.

It uses an algorithm to work out the likely departure date based on previous searches from that airport etc, peak season, days, months.

So, in the end from any search it tries to guess your departure airport, and arrival, dates, number of passengers etc.

It presets the Flights search box and populates the page with relevant content.
It sets the currency / language etc based on your location.
Cheap Flights from the Airport in question container showing previous searches.
Flights leaving within 7 days from that airport as above.
Some carefully written content that replaces various words dependent on the.
Information gleamed whilst guessing your trip.
It even does the Meta Title, Description and Keywords

It does all this in under 1/2 a second.

1 page plus an XML sitemap.

The XML sitemap builds "automatically" from searches completed, so if a search is completed to and from an airport not already in the xml sitemap, a link is created within the current sitemap that "sets" the homepage to that search using a (www . example . com/?example=LGW/AMS).

Every "page" is unique to the airports / dates / airline in question, yet it is all 1 page, the homepage.

It is about to get a new sitemap page, although it will likely also be displayed on the homepage, a lot of data has been built up and now it is possible to duplicate the "flight map" Google uses on the US flights site google.com/flights.

Google can only do the US.

This site can do any destination to any destination in any currency from almost any country. Should be interesting to say the least.

Try it out. (www dot flightsdirect dot com)

It should at the minimum preset your departure airport, then guess the destination, it depends on how you land on the site, from Google it gets your search phrase usually, e.g.

Flights from London to New York

Then it would strip out the London and New York, and set the search box accordingly.
