Video In Search Results

Ok , I have a website that is ranked very high in Google search results. My site has no video's on it currently. But I do have a video that I'm going to post to it.

My main goal with the video is to have it show up in search results ( I think it will bring in more traffic ). I do not want to host on youtube and have youtube rank for it, i just want it to show up for the page I already have ranked.

How should I go about doing this? I have researched on Google and found a site that tells how to do it using a site called Wistia to host on and have a video xml sitemap generated and then submit that to Google webmasters tools.

Does that sound about right ? Just wanna make sure I do it exactly right. Any tips or suggestions?

Well, if you have the video already produced, why not just put it on your server and putting the proper code on your side to embed it onto the desired page. If you dont know how to do this, just pay someone on fiverr or oDesk to do it for you. Then do any SEO tactics you want on that particular page to get it to rank.

If you are going to host it on another site, I dont understand why you dont just use YouTube. If it's that great and gets traffic because of the value created, then that's traffic you can drive back to your site. Why not take advantage of the traffic YouTube brings to the table instead of trying to not let them get any benefit by placing your video on their page. I've even noticed that the "Gurus" are hosting their prelaunch videos on youtube now.

it's no longer about exclusitivity and locking people out of the content (which you dont appear to be trying to do), it's about getting all the traffic you can to the video which drives traffic to your desired purpose.

      That being said, try splashthat.com

From what I understand from some of my own research and testing, still early days of course, is that google ranks videos based on tags associated with the video and content surrounding the actual video as it has no way of recognizing what the videos about.

Place a video on its own page by itself and it technically shouldn't rank better than if you placed a video with tags on a page that gives insight to the video using content.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to tag a video so if anyone else has tips on how this could be done i'd be interested as well

The reason I don't want to put it on Youtube is that I want my domain to rank for my video rather than Youtube rank for it.

The main purpose of adding the video to my site is that I want to try and get it to show in the search results. The page I'm wanting the video to show for in search results is already ranking in the top 3 search results for my 3 main keywords.

I just want a video to show in the results to see if it brings more traffic because no other search results in the top fold of page 1 has this, so I'm thinking if I could pull it off it just might give me a huge advantage over the competition.

I just wanted to add that when I personally click on Youtube video in search results, while I'm watching the video on Youtube I'm looking at all the other video's on the side and usually click on another 1 or 2 after that one. Very rarely if ever do I actually click on a link in the description, Idk if the majority of people do the same as I do or not, but I suspect most do.

Based on the thread title it's clearly an SEO question. This is the SEO sub-forum.

Well, I did manage to get the video on my page through Wistia , But I don't know if it'll show up in search results. Just sit back and hope for the best I guess.

Man if someone knew enough about this subject and made a wso outlining step by step how to get yhe video to show up in Google for your own domain, I believe that person would make a killin, who knows maybe I'll be that person some day.

If this project becomes a success and I could do it over and over again, I just might do that.

If I recall correctly, it should not be hard to create a video sitemap of a site using Wistia, but you can always P/M me your URL. Some video platforms are next to impossible going out of their way to hide the real URLs etc, but most are okay easy.

Well, the sitemap wasn't to hard to do through Wistia, you do have to edit your robots.txt file first though, which I was not familiar with, but I am now. Is there anything else I should do that would help make my video show up in search? The page the video is on is already ranked good, I just want the video to show up in Google.

Ive only had video on my site since early this morning and according to analytics it seems to have improved my bounce rate a great deal, so if nothing else, it was worth adding just for that reason alone.
