Is "Clickbank" hurting SEO?

Hey Warriors

Can someone confirm that the word Clickbank and the payment links from Clickbank are responsible for a Penguin slap??

I ask this as we didn't suffer any damages at Panda, but Penguin hit us heavy.

It would be an easy trigger for Google to punish all what has the keyword CLICKBANK in it or/and their payment links.

Most in there is "low quality" in Google's eyes or are affiliate sites. Doing this would get immediately rid of a good portion Google quotes as trash.

If so, what would be a possible solution to this? Changing from CB to another system?

Cloaking my links (G also doesn't like this), forwarding my links?

Thanks for giving me some ideas.

G.

I don't think so. I thought the same before with the keyword "free" but after seeing that there are still a lot of domains with "free" on top of google, keyword is not the problem. There are still unique clickbank reviews that ranks higher in google.

      OK, good point.

But "Free" is a very popular search term where Google has to deliver something to it's searchers, while "Clickbank" is a keyword nobody outside the IM world is searching for, and which could be used by Google to triggered and filter low quality sites/content.

It's not Clickbank. In my opinion it's the people who sit and scheme endlessly to "beat" the SEs. And with every new trick they come up with to game the system, Google and the others apply more pressure. And it ain't gonna stop. Clickbank is just an innocent bystander in the crossfire.

Sorry, edited the content as I read your post wrong - LOL

You are right to some extend, the question still stands.

Is Google using their spiders to trigger keywords or links related to Clickbank, for an easy slap of crap content (in their eyes, OK)?

Maybe to some extent. But I don't think they have to because the stuff the fast buck crowd does to try and beat them is so blatantly obvious they stand out like a sore thumb. And again, Clickbank and other affiliate networks simply get taken out with them.

    Your doing it wrong, lol.

What I do is build my own sales page that's hosted on my domain, then I put links on other internal pages pointing at my sales page. I could care less If my sales page ever ranks, I just need any/all of my other pages advertising text links to rank for SERP traffic. Next, I send the traffic from the custom sales page to the CB checkout & yes I still set the cookie (Google it).

The reason I started making custom sales pages hosted on my own site is most CB vendors try & steal your traffic with crazy links (email optin, etc...) on their squeeze pages. This way I don't have to deal with anyone else, I make the sale & collect my earnings, done.

That's cool and I would like to get a bit more into this, even if it's not exactly a answer to my initial question.

Just to stay clear, we ARE a CB vendor, and you can bet that we are 100% interested that our affiliates get their commissions for traffic they send to us.

Fact is that we had most sales from organic SEO as we got into CB after we have started to sell the course. Even we have the best gravity at CB for our niche, only a few affiliates are active. Maybe it's related to the fact that we where good indexed, maybe because we don't have a traditional looking sales page.

Actually we are willing to make special sales pages for EACH affiliate on our domain if they are interested and can drive a certain amount of traffic to us.

Anyway, I guess link redirecting from the order buttons could help to prevent the problem. Will look into this.

I also agree with Yokon strategy. Goog ro keep your affiliate link in the internal page so that the traffic driven page not get affected. Also for safe side use redirect links.
