Hello All,

One of my sites was affected by penguin update. I was on first and 2nd page for my keywords now everything dissappered. Even when you typed the business name directly into google the website wouldn't come up, but yahoo and bing it did. It's now been over a month and it does show up when you type the business name in googleBut no results when I try the keywords.

Has anyone experienced this? Does anybody have any advice on what I should do??

Greg

Visit Sea World. make your way to the penguin exhibit.
Climb up and jump in the water. Scream and yell,
splash around, make a scene. Maybe that will
make you feel better. Dry yourself off, come
back to reality, and stop letting google run your life.

Seriously, this thread had been ask over and over. Use the search feature.
Without addressing the question at hand I cannot see any reason why the overused remark of use the search feature must be posted. Perhaps the user wishes to get in a discussion and not skim over pre-existing replies.

First off, you say your site has been affected by the Google update is your only reason behind this conclusion is because of the recent change in rankings? As you know, the recent Google update what consisted of the elimination of Backlinks network sites, so if you truly were affected by this. It would have been due to the disappearance of Backlinks that eliminated networks were providing you. So essentially, if you're getting all of your Backlinks from the site, which was removed you would now have no Backlinks, thus affecting your ranking.

The solution would be to focus on document sharing sites and other resources that are not set up solely to generate Backlinks.

OK, with that behind us, I figured I would try and be helpful (unlike the clown above). How do you know you were hit by penguin? On what date did you see a decrease in rankings? Remember, most people believe that Google has not updated the penguin filter for close to two months. Is the site still indexed in Google?

Not quite sure why you were so rude about Clint's answer. This is exactly why my site was affected by Penguin. I've now started to build better quality backlinks and seeing a steady recovery.

I think you have just been hit by penguin. Different solution to resurrect the rankings does exist.

I had a site that was slapped hard, what I did was a total revamp, deoptimised the site, eased up the anchor text. used some naked links and "brand" links, diversified the link sources. This penguin is very irretable. I am trying a 301 on another site but even that is very slow....

      Hi Greg,

You made the flat assertion that one of your sites were "affected by penguin update". Why would you say this? Do you know what the Penguin update effected? If so, then you already have your answer.

The fact that you made this post, this way, seems to indicate 2 things:
      1. You don't know what the Penguin update actually affected.
      2. Your site was probably not effected by the Penguin update.

You post appears to be like so many others that we see on this forum. A few years ago, people that saw a natural ranking pattern, just like yours, would often come here and post that they were hit by the mythical "Google Sandbox". Then last year it became the Panda update that was blamed for every drop in ranking, and now we are seeing posts like yours that blame a natural ranking pattern on the Penguin update.

Could you actually have been hit by the Penguin update? Perhaps, but not the most likely explanation, based on the small amount of details you posted.

There is a far more likely explanation for your rankings drop, one that is experienced by nearly every webmaster on nearly every website. It is natural ranking pattern and has been for years. It is well known ranking factor among experienced webmasters and SEO specialist.

It's not a penalty, it is a temporary rankings boost for new content called QDF. It has been part of Google's ranking algorithm for many years. You weren't hit by a penalty, you were hit by a temporary boost in rankings. After that boost has worn off, you have sunk to your currently earned rankings. It's time now to get busy promoting your website so that you can truly earn the rankings you desire.

I got back all my sites that were penalized through 301 redirects and they are still ranking strong to date. The problem is some people don't do 301 redirect the right way. If you do it the right way, you will get back all your rankings.

In my experience, when a site has been hit and its no longer ranking like in the top 100 pages of Google, forgot it! no matter how much links or promotions you do, you can't get it back.

The only thing that works for me and for others is 301 redirects.

This is pathetic, wasting all your time trying to understand why your information has been booted off Google. The question to ask would be, if it was that good, why are none of the regular visitors coming back?

After Panda 1.0 they started smoking

Then came Panda 2.0, break out the scotch.

Shit! Now its Penguin, where is the crack cocaine.

I think your website get penalized after penguin updates. So, now you must have need to remove all the unnatural or low quality link which harmful for your website. By doing this, you will surely recover from this penalized.

A lot of people have already done that and they are still stuck in abyss. Once a site is penalized, its very hard to bring back that site. Instead take the short cut.

my site which is my business name, so no starting over was hit suddenly a few days after penguin so i can only assume it was penguin, my onsite is not too bad, i have goggled each paragraph and it finds only my site. searching my domain name it would show up 4th in Google, and 4 of my main keywords would find my site suddenly ranked 190- 380 in Google. they were ranked 1-5 beforehand. my other lesser keywords remained intact and doing fine. My first thought was " thats it fk google" and i went and registered bing local and targted major directory's in my region , paid and free ( ones that had 300,000 plus traffic a month) and kept my business going this way. The links they provided also passed a lot of trust ( i used site explorer as the benchmark ) its probly not what google exactly thinks but it was the benchmark i choose to use. ( before this all happened my site had 39 trust, after it had 16 trust. I also signed up to 4 forums that are very relative to my niche and got business through them and also used a naked URL in my Sig. It has taken from the inception of penguin to last Monday for my site to rank one for its domain name and my second largest keyword to begin ranking again ( its ranking at 38 at the moment, but it suddenly appeared at rank 66, and has been moving up gradually since) my other major keywords have yet too reappear. I also done some blog commenting ( around 2- 4 comments a week from niche high qaulity blogs (remembering i am using site explorer as my trust benchmark) i did not build a link from a site with less then 55 trust. always naked urls or my brand name, never used a keyword again. not sure if this helps anyone but it appears im recovering, i didnt really have a choice. but i immediately sourced work from other sources and slowly added links which where also from sources related to my site and also generated work.
