I have found Semrush very useful but cant understand how its collecting data for which keywords a website is ranked? From meta keywords? Off course not. I checked meta keywords and meta descriptions of websites and cross checked with semrush results. No its not using meta keywords and meta descriptions only.

So how its working? Any idea?

their faq page states : SEMrush currently returns data from 10 different regional Google databases, as well as the database for US Bing. Traffic stats are derived from Google.com data and are only based on Google SE traffic.

Keyword statistics are derived through an aggregation of Google data and several other proprietary data sources.

    Hope that helps
