Are you aware of Google Fetch in the Webmaster Tools area? If not you definitely gotta try/use it. Let me explain.
I just did a post on one of my sites earlier this evening (I'm located in Singapore and it's now 12.22 pm). I published it. Pushed my XML sitemaps again and took the URL of the post and passed it via Google Fetch. 20 min. later, just for the fun of it I wanted to check if the URL was indexed! I knew very well from past experience that it wouldn't be as the best I have ever seen up to now was indexing in 24 hours.
It was ! 15-20 min. post publishing and pushing via GF and the URL is in the index.
Wow.
So - for your own pages/post/site updates go with GF. It beats any kind of ping service. Obviously this does not concern BL indexing.
Hope you'll make good use of this. Just sharing 2 cents. Feel free to pass this on if you find it valuable enough. And do share your comments if you see the same or better results than what I have experienced.
