I am getting frustrated

I have submitted my website to google 5 weeks ago. I am indexed but not ranked. How long does it take?? I noticed some duplicate content from other sites by researching on copyscape.com. I fixed those. Could this have been the problem.

Also, I didn't realize that I needed to vary my anchor texts. I was able to go back to some areas and spin the text. Could this also have been a problem?

A site can be indexed within hours but ranking is a totally different thing. There are a number of factors that affects site ranking.

content (unique, people want to read, keyword density, tags, etc)
    high pr related backlinks
    returning visitors
    low bounce rate

    and more...
So don't expect to sit on top of google after creating a site.

if you type in site:yoursitename how many of your pages come up?

Are you building backlinks for your site? I have had my site up for almost a month with a couple of backlinks from guest posting, and a backlink from an article directory. Not to mention some internal linking and various social media accounts. This isn't enough to get me ranked anywhere in the top 10 or 20 pages for any of my keywords. Patience grasshopper!

All of the things you said could have been a problem....especially since the Penguin update.

If you did not know the penguin update was solely focused on unique content and finding site with one single anchor text. It is a great idea when link building to use anchors like "click here" or "find out more" nowadays. Also unique content is a MUST if you are going to put content on your website make sure you hire someone to do it or do it yourself. Also another key thing when linkbuilding is to use your inner pages and not just your home page to link to.

You currently have 4 pages indexed in Google. You need a lot more content. You can't possibly think having a site with such little content to get anywhere near page 10 let alone page 1.

I don't think there is a rule for numbers of pages, I think It's vary according the niche, so you shoud take a look to your competitors to see how many pages they have which will give you an idea. And of course create good content on those pages

Well lets see how long that lasts... You need to be providing value on a consistent basis. No if's and's or but's about it... It needs to be a keyword phrase that actually gets traffic of which they will spend money on what they are searching.

No sense at all saying "I can get page 1 with a few paragraphs" unless those paragraphs produce results as in money in the bank. Of which I am seriously inclined to think your full of sh!t...

    "I am not ranked yet"...

About 172,000,000 results (0.25 seconds) - This is the result from a query I did a second ago for a keyword that I rank on page one for (Country Targeting works.)... I'm giving you that number as an example, because out of those millions of result, in the niche I'm in a FEW Thousand of those are trying to rank for the very same keyword as me...

There is no set amount of time to be ranked, simply because you MAY NEVER be ranked, depending on the keyword you are trying to rank for. Example, if your keyword was boboboboboboboboboboboqowuqoew - a string of random characters, you'd be #1 because you have no competition.

but if your shooting to be ranked for a keyword, like "weight loss", there is little-to-no-chance of ranking, because 10k people are putting money down to land on top of that keyword. You don't just rank because you submit to Google, you have to fight for the spot... unless of course your Wikipedia

I have honestly found that video and massive social exposure works. I am not a pro at SEO by any means, but I have recently started to give it a go and I am finding that I am ranking high with almost none of the old stuff.

I submit to social networks. A lot of them. I have a well tagged video on the topic.(don't need to go super nuts) A quick 300 word post with the keyword maybe 3 or 4 times. I also you my autoresponder to hit my twitter and facebook accounts. The biggest thing for me has been the fact that I use nothing but brand new written myself content to go with the video..... This maybe be awful advice but as I mentioned it has worked for me. I think that real fresh content is huge. I hope that helps

You can expect to get indexed... but you can not expect to be ranked.

Stick your keywords in the google search slot and find out what you get.
Try to check out the top 10 results for each keyword and find out what they have and what they do that you don't. Find out what and who you compete against. Do some research on the age of the domains and the backlinks those sites have... etc.

Be patient bro. SEO is a lengthy process.
Keep on producing quality new contents is key for your SEO.

I am not sure about your website, do some research on your audience preference website and try to go there and publish your content (if possible).

After getting indexed, focus on on-site and offsite SEO... This is a long process if you are trying to rank a keyword with a very high competition. Be patient and get good and fresh content, build your links.

Content is the number one thing you'll need, put new quality content up everyday if possible, twice a week at the very least.
Then backlinks... get as many as possible and add them over time, google will penalize you for getting too many too fast, you'll need to get 5-10 backlinks a week on average.
This two principles will help you rank.

The Google Keyword Tool has nothing to do with SEO competition.

The competition column in the keyword tool is used for PPC competition, which has nothing to do with organic SERPs.

What the guys said is right...
the keyword tool is used to find out about PPC competition (paid ranking in Google) NOT SEO competition (organic ranking in Google).

To find out what you are up against it helps to look at the top 10 organic rankings for each keyword you target. I did that for your main keyword and wouldn't consider it low competition. You have a bunch of heavy weight sites (old and established domains, hundreds of indexed pages, high Google PR, hundreds/thousands of backlinks... often not all of these factors but many) that will be hard if not impossible to beat with a thin content affiliate page and as a beginner in SEO.

Finding out what you are up against is essential.
To get an idea about the "factors" I'm talking about above... get yourself a toolbar like the one from "SEO quake". It shows you the PR, number of indexed pages, age of the domain, Alexa ranking...etc.

Your page like it is now will have close to no chance to get anywhere.
Do some research... find easier keywords and build your site around them. Do it with original content. Read a lot about SEO. A good start is the beginners guide at seomoz.

Please show me some evidentiary data that concludes that. Google pageranks don't mean anything to be honest with where you rank...

I rank for a very nice keyword, and my site had a PR0 or 1 when it was ranked... (All of my competition has pr8+).

Please provide evidence of your point, otherwise it joins the amounts of false posts that lead people astray on their IM journey throughout this lovely forum.

You totally misunderstood the OP. He is not talking anything about pagerank (PR). He is talking about ranking his site on google search result.

..and nobody really knows when Google update the PR.. It could be 2, 3, 4, or more months. Don't give false information please..

Reviewing websites, analyzing content and delivering search results is a continuing process that is separate and distinct from the page rank that Google releases. I have had new sites appear in the search results within days, way before the periodic page rank adjustments.

I personally would not look at it as having patience because it is more a process, each week you should be able to gauge your success based on progress.

I would also be careful of Fiverr, there are far more bad gigs then good gigs and picking the wrong one will have you going backwards in a hurry. It has taken me 6 months to learn and now finally to the point of wrestling the #1 spot from the competition. Best advice I can give you is do a little work everyday, not a lot of work all at once.

If your pasting copied content on your pages from external sites, checking anything with CopyScape is useless for SEO. The Google Algo. doesn't care about CopyScape.

Search Google SERPs for duplicate pages/content, anything else is a waste of time.

Build relevant pages with relevant anchor-text links pointing at your target page/keyword you want ranked in the SERPs.

Brittney, I think you might have a "home page" named page and there talk a bit what is your site about and link your pages from there while you are touching that information and telling people where to read more (in what of your pages), and also create a site mapa, google likes sites well organized

Other thing, I'd try a time removing the above affiliate banner placing it on other place, or adding it nofollow

Brittney if you want to check your competition just place the keywords you want rank for, and the 10 of first page are your competitors, but I think you could beat them since your are beeing too specific, so don't worry, but surely you should be very patient, I would like you take a look to this thread http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...d-penguin.html

The key I think is you don't despair, and if you have copied your content from other web, make some changes to turn it into something original, what is called spinned content
