we are now running under some tough updates (panda & Penguin) from Google which is very strict at even small piece of malpractices in website optimization. so its very hard to make survive the websites at top of the search engine results. so i think to list out some effective strategies that can withstand the Google updates. so all we have to do is:

> Write Quality, Useful, Updated and Unique content with standard keyword density (1-2%).
> Decorate and frame your website with effective tools (search box, social media tools) and other on-page customization (categories, archives, tags).
> Allow bots to look at your entire site. create a clear path (XML and HTML site maps) for bots to crawl and index your website soon.
> To promote your website prefer blog commenting, allow guest posting, and take help of social media.
> Much effectively, do link building with those sites that are relevant to your website.
> No paid links should appear in your website. Remember, Google hates them most.
> Run effective PPC campaigns and affiliate programs to market your product/service.

To fill all this in a sentence, design your website search engine friendly, put healthy content and follow white hat tactics in optimizing the website.

    In before everyone else.

The finest SEO practice for 2012-2013?

    LINK BAIT.

I could really care less about keyword density anymore. Create content that instantly has other websites linking to you. Whether it's reviews, images, blog posts, a service, products, or even something wacky. Get people talking.

Get them to link to you because your content is so damn good. It's been working since the late 90s and it still works today. Period.

At this point, it's time to stop thinking of ways to game the system and simply create content that spreads like wildfire. You know... like the professionals do!

I completely disagree. The updates were not that big of a deal. Everyone knew they were coming someday. If you chose to use link building methods that got you hit, that was your choice.

Blog commenting and guest posting have nothing to do with SEO. You are talking about marketing strategies now.

Sure, they dislike paid links, but if you are smart about it, how would they know?

Again, nothing to do with SEO here.

SEO has not changed, despite what people keep moaning about. Good quality links and a properly optimized site works every time.

I'll tell you some of the errors I commonly see as an SEO.

Too many links on a page. Tightly themed navigation with fewer links is much more effective.

Canonical errors. So many websites are screwed because of this and don't realize it.

Navigation hidden in Flash or Javascript. Search engines do not parse Flash or Javascript very well (although they are getting better at it). Screws up your internal linking structure if the search engines cannot see the links.
