Newbie Onpage SEO question & More

So I talked to an odesk "SEO Expert" and he said...

Onpage:

1) Bolding & underlining keywords.

2) H1 tags for keywords & titles

Offpage:

1) Linkwheels - I thought this doesn't work with google updates, even with drips.

My strategy is just to comment on blogs and submit to social bookmarkings since I won't be penalized by google.

Also directory submission submissions don't work anymore right?

Any opinion and thoughts about the SEO expert's strategy and my strategy would be great. Thanks.

There should only be one H1 tag per page. So it can be for your site name, or post/page title. Don't tag every keyword as H1.

One thing that I find useful is if you create a Google Plus profile and link to that as your author link in your posts. If Google picks that up it will give you a nice boost.

Thanks. I'll create a Google Plus profile!

What are your thoughts on linkwheels?

If you are a newbie, I have a free ebook called 'SEO essentials' at:
        SEO Essentials » BloggerKhan.com

It will help you get going. Basic SEO is not that difficult but requires patience as the results take a while to surface.

        Good Luck!

Blog actively at Bloggerkhan.com. I continue to be a student of internet marketing and am fascinated by how different people use the same tools to get different results. I also do reviews -often because I can't find a good review elsewhere.

Sounds like the Odesk expert is a ******* idiot. I would hope he does more onpage than just that. Like inspecting the website to make sure it has a solid navigation and internal linking structure. Are there canonical issues on the site? Is the content being parsed okay by spiders? I could go on, but H1 tags and title tags are just the tip of onpage SEO.

Linkwheels are ok, but depends on the quality of them IMO. Most Odesk workers and spammers in general are just throwing up slop with 1 or 2 articles on Web 2.0 sites. If you are going to do it, do it right. Build out the Web 2.0 with 5-10 articles. Make it look like a real site.

They usually spam the crap out of the Web 2.0's then. That tactic works now, but it is something I would be cautious of. With the Penguin update Google started taking a look at the quality of backlinks. In my opinion, the next logical step is for them to take that one level further and start looking at the links pointing to links.

Is there a link you can give me that goes into detail about internal linking structure?

I didn't hire the guy because I wanted him to give me an example of a site with H1 tag keywords and he never did. He just kept saying "the developer should know." Then I called him out on it and he got mad and started cussing.

So linkwheels with web 2.0 is okay as long as the sites have real content?

I don't know where to find a link. It's just one of those things an SEO should know from years of experience. And no offense to web designers, but most of them are fairly SEO incompetent. Putting onpage SEO back on the web designer is just silly. They need some guidance. In most cases, it is not their specialty.

Linkwheels are ok if you are trying to rank for something with no competition. If there is any competition whatsoever, you are probably going to need some linkbuilding that is a lot stronger than that.

But linkbuilding is frowned upon now by google right?

What are my choices so google won't penalize the site?

          Thanks for helping me out.

I would say you have to hire someone that knows what they are doing.

To some degree linkbuilding is frowned upon, but at the same time nothing is going to rank without it.

You need to stay away from low quality linkbuilding... forum profiles, using thousands of article directories, links off of obvious blog networks, links from link farms, etc.

Wow, I find it hard to believe that is all he shared with you regarding On Page SEO- as was stated above, there are so many more On Page factors to consider.

i would like to share my opinion with you. See now days after google panda and penguin update many link building strategies are not giving instant results. That doesn't mean link building strategies are outdated. Powerful SEO Tactic is what you should follow while building backlinks.

About the directory submission. It is still effective link generation process. You just need to do submission perfectly. Niche listings are the source of getting top ten ranking on the search engine.

Well, there is one main benefit of on-page optimization is if you know how to research keywords then you can research low keywords which can rank without link building if you do on-page optimization perfectly, if you pass in this method then earning is really high...

The odesk guy doesn't know anything about "Onpage " , their are many factor like :

    canonical url
    internal linking
    h1,h2,h3 title
    alt tag for images
    keyword percentage
underlining and bolding keywords and many more .. He just gave you a preview of on page seo .

    For offpage seo :

"Try writing guest posts on website . Create your website's link in the author area ."

choose a high pr website and create an awesome article for them ... they will surely accept it and you will get a good pr link which is legal in google eye's

    Hi,

There are useful SEO plugins for Wordpress. You do not have to have a check list of the on page SEO anymore. You can install all-in-one SEO, etc so you can fully optimize your pages.

As for off page SEO, directory submission is still useful if you want to get easy backlinks but it is important that you focus more on quality links like from web 2.0 sites and social networking sites.
