Hello

I have discovered that a local firm has started to use my company name of their site (i can only guess its as cheap seo trick)

My company name is "Cumbria Computer Repairs Ltd"

On their site the have used my company name as the page title. and throught out the site have comments like below

Cumbria computer repairs helping individuals and businesses get back to work with our complete laptop and PC repair services.
I'm not sure how to approach this, i have contact the host and they are not willing to help. I can supply the two url if needed.

Thanks for your help in advance

Paul

You may be able to just confront them and ask them to remove the references. It may be difficult to force the issue if they are not saying anything libelous though. Depends on what the laws in the UK are.

I don't think there are any laws against people putting your company name on their site. However, if it's in the URL then you can possibly get them to stop legally.

I dont see that they have put your company name on the site.

What I think they are doing is trying to rank for the keyword 'Cumbria Computer Repairs' and once they achieve the top spot will probably rent out links from their site to local businesses in the area.

The fact your company is called Cumbria Computer Repairs Ltd is a coincidence

You may be looking to report them to Google for this:

"Phishing is attempting to acquire information (and sometimes, indirectly, money) such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity"

By the way, did they steal any content from you? If they did, you could file a DMCA complaint and than have them removed for copying your content.

There is no law stopping them directly, other than passing off and slander, sure enough it is a cheap trick, free even, however it works very well.

We like to rank for our competitors names so we do "Competitor Reports", PDF's, and post them in our downloads section, a couple of backlinks to the report and a little time and usually we get on Page 1 for their company name.
