Has Google released another algorythm update?

I have 2 sites that I have ranked on Google page 1 without using any backlinks or any other type of off-page SEO. They stayed on page 1 through the Penguin update but I checked their rankings today and they are nowhere to be found.

I also checked Webmasters Tools and I have no warnings or anything like that.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

Actually Google updates its algorithms about every 4-6 weeks. The latest one just happened a couple of weeks ago and it was a Whopper!

Thanks for the link. I'm starting get more traffic from Bing and Yahoo now and the traffic seems more targeted than what I was getting from Google.

Yeah.. unfortunately those other search engines don't work so well or at all in other countries while Google does. ...

I agree with it. There are thousands of search engines around the world but Google performs the maximum number of search queries throughout the web everyday. Yahoo and Bing is after that. Others are not much effective.

Wrong. I'm amazed at some of the crap people post around here as fact. Google made close to 500 changes to the algorithm each of the last few years. On average that is over 1 update to the algorithm a day.

First of all, ranking in any search engine takes the same basic work. I would love to know how you target other search engines, but not Google.

Second, unless you live in Russia or China, Google has the overwhelming market share in search. The other search engines will only bring you a fraction of the search volume that Google can.

To the OP, look up something called QDF. That is probably why your site dropped. In reality, it was just getting a boost for being a new site, but has now dropped to its real ranking position. You haven't built any backlinks, so unless your site has absolutely no competition, you do not deserve a top ranking.

I find that Yahoo and Bing seem to be more on the money in terms of relevant keywords vs content. If only people used them to search!

is actually correct. i don't think Google is going to put out 1 or 2 updates every day. They will plan, collect the data and will surely put them within a month or two. Its just my personal thought.
Well your personal thought is wrong.

    They update the algorithm constantly.

Every 4-6 weeks they release a report outlining the changes that they made over the last 4-6 weeks, but the changes are happening all the time.

We're all entitled to our own thoughts.

We're all entitled to our own feelings.

Nobody is entitled to their own facts though. They are what they are.

That's a very blanket statement. If he has excellent content that provides value to the reader, with or without backlinks, he deserves a top ranking.

In a perfect world, sure. In the real world though, sites rarely rank based on content alone. That only happens for keywords with no competition.

One of the sites I'm referring too is 1 1/2 years old. It does have backlinks, but not by me. I didn't pay for or manually add backlinks. Backlinks were put there by other site owners who liked my site enough to link to my site, just like Google wants.

I agree with another poster here that Bing and Yahoo's search results are far more relevant than Google's at the moment. Lately when searching Google I get a lot of outdated results from 2-3 years ago and the results are mainly filled with MFA sites and plain old ad filled sites with outdated content.

Yes. I see this mostly on my newly created EMD sites and consider it to be SOP on googles part. Simply put, the honeymoon between you and google is over and they've decided that your site is not worthy of top ranking

Start adding some content to the sites and doing some back linking. It will begin to move back up.

There is an refresh update on 20th Aug from Panda may be thats the reason your site was not doing well.Or it may be possible that you have got a new competitor and his site is doing well from yours.

No.. Google hasn't released any update in Google now. It may be in next year.. i think there could be any other reason for your site's drop. I think, you posted quality contents to your site and that's the reason for your top rank in SERP and you stopped publishing content in your site. This reflects in SERP. No other chances to drop your rank. Google never make a mistake though we made sometimes.
