We just got google slapped. We had just made it to page 1 for online drum lessons and then overnight we were pushed to page 3! There was a website that was hacked with a ton of porn related links pointing directly at our home page. It happened 2-3 weeks before the google slap. I can't see anything else that would have caused us to lose rank. You can check our links at backlinkwatchBor opensiteexplorer. The links were from njunitedmma and the webmaster deleted them relatively quickly so they are all 404s now.

I emailed him and he said they were hacked and all these links posted. I mean...what other purpose would there be for these garbage links and then we lose rank???

Yes, may probably the cause. But don't panic, just keep it going with your site, had similar cases with some of my sites and they all came back at the end.

    Cheers!

That cant be a good feeling! If that was all then you should be able to recoup fairly quickly.
Come back in two weeks to a month and let us know where you stand. Best of luck!

Did the hacked links all contain the same anchor text?

It could be the large influx of links just looks 'unnatural' to Google and they immediately slap it.

It might be worth a quick 'reinclusion request' if everything else is clean. They'll tell you if it's a manual penalty or not.

Links form porn sites are a nonissue. In fact, many are highly
authoritative with high PR. Google does not hate porn sites.
Seriously. How much value would you place on a link
          from playboy.com?

If it were that simple....people would be creating porn sites
left and right...(well, okay, they do that already) and
link to every site in their top 10. And then crossing their
          fingers....

Tell me this. When and if you make it back to page one, what
will the site that you replaced have to complain about?
          A google slap?

If google really hated your site, you have been deindexed, not
put on page 3. Surely you don't think the sites on page 4
have received a double-google slap, do you? Pity the fools
on page 10. They really got the shaft.

Going to page is, as always, normal fluctuations. How did
you get to the top? By just having google slap everyone else?
Or was it fresh, perhaps good, content? hard work? Why can't
          other people do the same?

In fact, if anyone cares to look at your site, it is not that great.
No offense, but it's just harvesting emails for some 7 day free
trial. I see many, many reasons why the site would drop. Every page
has the same email harvester or come on.

          Look within before you outside.

Obviously it's not a slap, I see your site/page at position #16 in Google SERPs for the keyword (online drum lessons). If Google slapped the site/page you would know it, considering you would be lucky to even find it in the SERPs.

Sorry, I thought I understood what google slap meant...I read somewhere that it means google pushes you down 2-3 pages in the rankings overnight.

Anyways we have been slowly working our way up from page 3 and 4 and finally made it to page one. We haven't been super aggressive and are novice linkers at best.

We would move from 10 to 11 and back for weeks so to drop to 30-40 seems like something went wrong.

Also the sites that replaced us are all the same sites that were there before and nothing has changed. The top 3 results are all the same company and if you look at their sites they have 2 and 3 email captures right on the main page.

We had 2 pages that ranked for that keyword. Our homepage made it to page one and had stayed there for a good 3-4 days then back to 30-40.

Scary cause we don't know what caused this...

I was slapped with a website that i was ranking for some very high competitive keywords. I was pushed to page (only God knows) 10+ and i have been very careful with my SEO since. It happened about 50-60 days ago and finally i am back to page 1 rank number 1. I came better than i was!!

Sharing this for you so you know there is hope and possibility of coming back!

What i did was set up some very high PR sites including .edu and .gov in addition doing a mix of link wheels and link pyramids on all of my articles and pages. Took work and money but it is now paying off!

    Good luck!
