Bing results - all or nothing

I'd always just done all of my keyword research and rank checking manually, as it's always worked out well for me, but I had some extra money and bought Long Tail Pro because I figured I needed to start taking that stuff more seriously.
So I was setting up my rank checking list and I started to notice a weird trend. I was either in the top 10 in Bing, or I was 500+. I only ever optimize for Google and really don't have any idea what I need to do to get good rankings in Bing.
I guess I'm just curious if others have seen this type of result for their own sites.
