[.net .com .org] Does it affect rankings?

Hey SEO Warriors,

I'm here to ask this question, because I hear from a lot of people that .com is the best way to rank a site and all other domains will affect your ranking in Google.

I would like to ask you guys, is this true?

Is it easier to rank a .com domain than a .net domain?

The reason I ask is because I plan on starting a blog, monetized with CPA offers and driving traffic with SEO. I can probably find a .com but the best sounding domain names are .net because the .coms are already taken.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

get whichever one with the best domain name available. There's not much difference, even if there was its minimal.

My understanding is that a .com has the trust factor but that there is not any difference other than that people perceive .com to more authentic

I have .net and .info sites that rank highly on Big G

Then those people don't know what they are talking about.

The main advantage of getting a .com is purely if you want a brandable site. In most cases a .com is going to look more professional.

For niche sites, it doesn't really matter what you use.

Well, I do plan on making this a brandable site. It's not a niche blog.

So you would recommend me look for a .com instead of .net?

If you would like more info (such as specific domain names) PM me if you think that would help you help me more.

      Thanks again,

The biggest issues you will have in not buying a .com domain name is I cant tell you how many times I tell people my domain name ends in .NET but they in their Brains always want to say .com even when Im being interview by people on air or on Blogtalk radio they say give me the address again to your site and they always want to say .com and I have to correct them. Its more of an OFF page SEM issues like having a Tol Free # in 1800 vs 855 people get confused and dont associate the 855 as easily with Toll Free calling

My opinion is both are best. You should go with .net because you are getting best domain names. There is no vast difference between .com & .net infact both are workable.

From a re-sale point of view .com is worth more. With regards to rankings, get an exact match domain will help regardless of ending.
