Thinking about starting a ecommerce site based around designer sunglasses. And wanted to know what tactics should i seek in a SEO expert to get my site to the page 1 for certain keywords?? (link-bukding,edu,profiles,blog comments, etc.) And what do you think the expenses would be?

That's a pretty competitive space, I'd make sure I was targeting a really specific niche within the space if your starting from scratch. Also, you'll probably have a hard time making it work financially paying an SEO unless you have the capital to invest until your rankings are high enough to see a return. SEO isn't rocket science, if you're going to start this on the side or on a shoestring budget, start following the SEO thoughtleaders like SEOMoz and you'll pick it up pretty quickly.

It can take longer time to rank a website in such niche. You can start off with forum posting. Because you will start posting in forums related to your niche, you will get some valuable leads to your site. May be some potential customers too.

I think it depends on the search terms. You may find a keyword related to your niche that isn't so competitive so you can rank quite highly pretty quickly.

My thoughts exactly..the keyword "sunglasses" has like 201K exact monthly and is very competitive, but other suggestions like "buy sunglasses" had 1,900 monthly and its a buyer keyword, so i should be able to rank fast and there's alot more keywords like this ranging from 500 to 30K, which seems like a good spectrum compared to the very high competition KW with 70K on up....

Look for a positive review from your preferred expert and then have a chat with him to see what he will do to get your site on the Top.

will you be stocking and shipping the sunglasses or dropship?
If you are handling the merchandise then there are many sites you can post your offerings on, including Google shopping, ebay, etc.

Keep your prices low and even though you do not make much at first, your low prices will help drive traffic and have people talking and posting links back to your store.
The use of coupons will also attract many of the "coupon shops".

But the biggest thing you can do is start an affiliate program which will allow you to list in the many affiliate directories not to mention having people drive traffic to your store.

If it's dropship merchandise, well, good luck

To be honest, I would start by not revealing your niche here. A client of mine did exactly that in a thread here the other day and is now regretting it.

Problem is, most folks will give up their money sources for the sake of a PRn/a forum link, because they read someplace it's a great idea & everybody is doing it (lol).

One of the guys above has two non-IM money links in his sig. (got to have that free PRn/a link). They even give up the exact keyword (anchor-text).

They have to be easy SERP competition If they're depending on Warrior Forum for ranking their pages.

Sunglasses is a market though, its not a niche. Well I suppose eyewear is the market though but sunglasses is much too large for a niche.

    1. Target the backlinks the top 10 ranking websites in Google have.
    2. Do some good guest writing for related, but non-competing websites.
    3. Start a blog, regularly post good content and push updates to your social profiles.
