Hello.

First time in my life I'm trying to go with the expired/deleted domain. What should I look before getting the domain?

1) Is there any difference if it's deleted or expired?
2) The older the better?
3) What if the backlinks still exist, but the they lead to pages that don't / will not exist any more?
4) Anything else I should look for?

I'm not trying to grab some high PR domain, just aged and safe.

Thanks

E: btw this site I found has still some pages indexed by google, it got expired 2 days ago..

My recommendation is to try to get expiring domains that hasn't expire yet, if you are in weight loss niche for example you better of get aged PR 0 domain in the same niche then get PR 5 domain in "credit card" niche the reason why: if you get PR 5 domain in different niche then you are, and adding new content on the site that was in different niche your PR it won't last long as soon Google update PR your PR 5 will drop to PR 0, how I know I tested many expiring domains for my niches ...

    1.The older the better ?

Yes definitely, it would rank much better then brand new domain as already has establish some "trust" with the Google specially if has relevant links and PR...

What if the backlinks still exist, but the they lead to pages that don't / will not exist any more?

It doesn't matter much just start of first with social bookmarks and press release and overtime build more links and adding more relevant content to it...

Anything else I should look for?

you got make sure some thing before you buy domain, first make sure that particular domain doesn't have installed Google Analytic or Google Webmaster Tool it's up to you but I wouldn't buy domain that Google has all info about it, (I tried to purchase several expiring domain's from Go Daddy Auction for my niches but I refused after I find out that domain's has installed Analytic and Webmaster tool) make sure that domain it wasn't penalized otherwise it would be worthless to buy such a domain as it would never rank high.

      Thanks for the INFO!

The domain I'm looking for has PR0 and few backlinks, but I'm more into "age" and the "domain name", because it fits perfectly to my new ideas.

It has 200 indexed pages in google, don't know.. is it bad or good?

Furthermore, how do I know if it doesn't have google analytics or GWT installed?

Please do not listen to this guy, he is spreading the biggest nonsense ever.

Even if you re-theme the site it keeps it's strength. I have 250+ domains that I transferred in a different style and every single one of them kept their strength and PR.

    1) Deleted domains are available for registration fee, the longer they are deleted the smaller the chance they regain the PR. This is my experience with 100 domains that I bought that were deleted many years ago vs about 25 domains that I bought that were deleted weeks ago.

Out of the 100 long time dropped ones only about 25% regained the PR
Out of the 25 recently dropped domains 100% of them regained the PR

    2) If they both would have the same links then I guess the older the better yes

    3) If you use Wordpress you can install a plugin named LinkJuiceKeeper
Alternatively you can 301 redirect the non existing url's at your cpanel.

    4) I don't know I don't do much with just aged domains I always go for domains with PR

There's a whole bunch of stuff you need to check.

    PR
    Who.is Age
    Who.is Registrar Selling
    info:http://Dropped-Domain.com
    site:http://Dropped-Domain.com
    How many backlinks ?
    Auction Price

That all takes a whole lot of time.
