Backlinking can never be dead.If it does in future then i guess doing this much of effort in getting ranked will be of waste.

Backlinking is as important as ever.... its careless spamming that's out of play.

i.e, if you have 100,000 backlinks and half of for them are for a long-tail local keyword, then you're sent to the bottom.

Just gotta keep an eye on your anchor text ratios through webmaster tools.

    Indeed,

In today's blog post from matt cutt, he shared an experience of a company complaining Google of why his PR was dropped from 7 to PR 3!

Reason Matt cutt gave was that there were some Paid Links pointing to your website which were passing link juice, we find that violating our rules and hence we reduced your PR.

Hell, Yeah non-organic backlinks are now under the radar more strongly than ever!!!

Ha-ha, that video you watched, OP, must be from 2005. That's when link building was first proclaimed dead, and has been dying since.

Not true V - SEO is just going through a period of adaptation in 2012 to Google's latest changes. It's happened many times before and will happen again.

Google has to use a series of signals to determine ranking and we in the SEO community (i.e. Google's arch enemy) monitor those changes, test and adapt.

Search engines as we know them will always rely on some form of 'voting' or 'social proof' which therefore makes them vulnerable to manipulation - to a certain degree.

Having said that, smart IMers and SEOers are always diversifying their traffic sources far beyond Google and you should do the same.

I have been saying this since the days of Altavista, Hotbot, lycos, Alltheweb and more.. way back then.

Search engines only have 2 things on which to rank your site.
    1. what YOU say about how good your site is and what your site is about.
2.What OTHERS say about how good your site is and what your site is about.

Looking at that simple statement who would you prefer to listen to and take most notice of The guy with a vested interest in telling you about the quality of his p[roduct, or others with no vested interest?

All that has changed, and is changing is that Google is learning a little bit better at how to infiltrate the systems that are beating them (networks link sellers etc), and bringing them down, fighting hand to hand in a way they said they would never do.

Links are not dead, but the days of buying a few sitewide links and ranking #1 have gone. manufactured inks have to be obfuscated in order to work properly.
