Are Text Link Ads a bad idea?

Hi there,

Im new on here and was hoping for a little guidance.

I have an ecommerce site was ranking on page two for a couple of my main keywords and slowly moving forward however since 11th july 2012 my rankings have fallen to around page seven on google.

I have been using an seo company for a campaign including submitting to directories, article writing/submitting, social bookmarking. They have also been linking from pr1 and pr2 sites and when I analyse these sites (since the Penguin algorithm they have stopped building these links) they clearly are from made up sites created solely for outward bound links.

I havent had an email from google about spammy links but I do feel concerned that they aren't doing the site any good.

My seo company say that removing the pr links wont help but I have been reading about people making an effort to do just that - is this the way forward.

Also I have been looking at TLA brokers with a view to getting a few good quality paid links from pr5 and pr4 sites but have read about google being able to quickly identify code in the sites header mentioning TLA - does anyone have experience of this? I dont want to get my site de-indexed or damaged any further.

I would be really grateful for any advice.

Thanks
Claire

First of all find out why your website has gone down and Text Link Ads won't work so don't waste money on this.

If I recall there was an update on the 10th of July, odds are you want to look at what this update effected and see how it relates to your site.

Thanks for that Nelapsi - I did wonder if there had been some kind of update around that date but when I googled it I couldnt find anything, I will have another look.

      Thank you!

Yeah, it wasn't one of those game changing updates and one website of mine was not effected while the other actually increased in rank. That means some sites had to lose.

Let me add, if your SEO company doesn't keep track of this kind of stuff.. might want to switch companies then. I say that because I was paying someone to do SEO this would be something I would expect from "experts".

Tell me about it they're in good contact when wanting you to sign up but when theres a problem its all very quiet, I had to tell them my pr had fell and rankings too. Wont berenewing the contract but thought I would get them to remove the suspect pr links before then - do you think this would help? thanks!
