I'ts probably been done but I was just thinking why in the world have a pic of me in the serps next to my site when I could use a image of whatever it is that I'm selling.

So if I'm selling grills, there's a picture of grill next to my url in the serps, they say pictures make people want to click more, so if my site is "buygrills.com and there's a picture of a grill right next to it they should help the ctr to my site right.

Author pic should be used for information/authority sites in my opinion, for some amazon niche site, I'd rather have product image.

Yeah author pic is more a blog like thing or if you work for some company. With Amazon products you would probably be better of with an image of a grill, perhaps with some large 25% DISCOUNT sign in it!

Will they show a picture of a grill ... anyone got any SERPs where the author picture is not a person's picture?

I have been meaning to add an author page to a couple of my blogs ... was going to just add my logo as the author pic. If I get it done before anyone answers, I will post what happens.

I wouldn't post an image of something your selling, as an author image in Google SERPs.

Someone complains & they'll probably shut the account down & possibly look at the sites attached to the fake author image in the G account.

I came across this couple days ago which made me think of this idea. Rib recipe. Those ribs look delicious , now if that's not enough to get visitors to click on your site , what is?

Those large thumbnail images are not author images, those are rich snippets.

I had a recipe site a few years back when G first started rich snippets, I know they had it locked down for only the popular recipe sites with big traffic, maybe they've changed since then (IDK).

They do have other types of rich snippets (more info. here):
          • Reviews
          • People
          • Products
          • Businesses and organizations
          • Recipes
          • Events
          • Music

I was just looking at these today ... was going to add the review snippets to my coupon site. I wonder if I can use the logo of the site ... like for GoDaddy Coupons, put as my image the GoDaddy logo.

Yukon ... what don't you know?

    Yeah I wouldn't risk it.

But if you want to try, defiantly share your results.

its sounding like u could still get the product pic you are reviewing to show up with the rich snippets

i have seen a magic submitter image show up where you would expect the authors pic to be in the serps

I've spent the last 59 months building 412 MFA sites. Each site averages 8 cents per day...I said average, some make up to 17 cents per day, PASSIVE INCOME! This income allows me to live comfortably and buy ANY flavor Jolly Rancher or Skittles I desire. Don't give in to fear, it CAN be done!

I have played with 2 different things in the SERPS for displaying images.

Author Images - As in the actual image from Google+ I have had a hard time getting anything to display other than a face. I even tried putting a semi-transparent face over the top of the picture I wanted to display in the SERPS but no dice. To be honest I only tested this a few times and not extensively so I can't catagorically say it is not possible.

Video Thumbnails - Now video thumbnails are a whole different story. I can get pretty much whatever I want to display in the SERPS. A video thumb with a 2 pixel red border does wonders for your CTR rate ^^
