Correction, bookmarking is good until certain length. High pr social bookmarking sites are worth it but the rest is just wasting your time. Too many sites now being de-indexed can actually harm your sites performance and rankings. You should focus on bookmarking at the minimum to important sites like digg and stumbleupon and then the rest with ezine articles and goarticles for article submission. Guest blog on relevant sites and press releases are important as well.

There is a wide variety of guest posting sites and it works great for traffic and ranking boost.

you can get backlinks doing forum posting,directory submision,blog commenting,socail bookmark sharing site..
submit ur website url to top directory with pr above 5...and do blog commenting on sites similar to ur site niche..
do forum posting as much as u can..
make your content fresh and unique...above all a blooger need patience and consistence in his work..
