I have understood that back linking is indeed a necessary formula for boosting search engine ranking. I have visited many forums and websites but all they do is to confuse me. I want answers to the following questions :
1) Should it be done using a dedicated keyword anchored or varied?
2) Although there is no limit to the number of links that can be added on a single day but still is there any rough figure as to how many back links must be added each day for maintaining a good rank for a medium competition keyword?
3) My website comes on first page of google every month for 4-5 days for keyword "online cosmetics" then it just disappears to 25th-30th page. What is the reason behind this?

    1) Keep the ratio of targeted to non-targeted keywords to about 1:2
    2) No minimum number. look for only quality, not quantity.
    3) Either your backlinks are getting removed on a regular basis or the click through ratio of your site is not good enough for it to be placed on Google's first page.

    1. You should certainly use your keywords when building backlink.

    2. If you build more than 10 links per day now Google may think you bought them. So, keep your backlinks less than 10. Backlinks should be gradual and manual.

    3. About your website dropping rank. There could be two factors which inorganic link or Over optimization. Or even duplicate content. Find out where you got your back links and how you got them all that made Google penguin update to hit your website.

Yes, u are right that if u want to rank on search engine, u need to build quality backlinks from high authority sites..especially in your niche..
    Now to answer ur questions:
    1) Post Google Panda update u should look at optimizing your anchor text around the following profile:
    a. site brand/domain/url (example linksbull.com, linksbull , e.g. Link Selling Broker etc)
    b. 2-3 Strategic Keywords
    c. with random text like click here, know more etc

2)u should focus on building quality links from high PR sites rather than building links from spamming sites...if u have a new site..focus on building PR0-1 links before u move to PR2+ links. u should follow a pragmatic approach in building links ..not too fast n not too slow..if u are building good 15-20 links daily u can expect to rank for low & medium keywords in few months.. remember quality links matters not quantity..
    3) I'm assuming that u are building some cheap links through spun articles that are getting dropped hence u see drop in rankings..if u doing that..stop it & focus on building quality backlinks ..try to get contextual links that are placed within the relevant text..as it will provide u max. link power & also ur links will looks natural to search engines.

    Hope it helps!

    1) First remember the golden rule of link building in the 2012 post-Penguin world: Can it pass a human quality rater review?

Be extremely careful / conservative when it comes to acquiring anchor text rich links aggressively.

You can carefully analyze the AT / backlink profiles of of existing top 10 sites to get insights into thresholds.

    2) Although search engines employ temporal analysis when it comes to the rate at which a site acquires links, what is more critical is HOW naturally those links were acquired rather than the absolute quantity.

For example: it is perfectly possible to acquire bunch of links quickly if your content goes viral or you get mentioned in mainstream media, etc

    3) It appears that your site has not yet attained the level of authority / age for the rankings to settle more reliably in the top SERP slots and could be bouncing on account of content freshness of the new posts ( QDF )

But it's difficult to say anything concrete without taking a look at your site and doing some deeper competitive analysis.
