How to rank well in SEO without social media

Hey guys,

Recently I met up with a challenge that I thought of posting here to see if any warriors have any experience in this.

Here is the situation:

I got a local client who hired me to rank well in SEO. The challenge that i am facing in that under my country laws, the particular agency can only "advertise" in three areas.

1) Inside and round their physical office
2) The websites that they own
3) Directories

Technically they are not even suppose to be able to buy backlinks (though I suspect that it would be hard for the authority to check on it).

We have asked the authority if we are able to have social media accounts and the reply was "do you own the social media sites? If not, then no"

Here is where I hit a road block in terms of helping them in their SEO. The only thing that I can think of is doing press release which might seems to be "news" which would seem more natural. If any of you have any good suggestion, I would love to hear them. Do bear in mind that the client doesn't exactly have a big budget.

    Gosh, Johnson, where is this?

Anyway, you don't have to have a social media account to gain back links. If you can put the "Like" or "Share" or any other social media button on your client's site, then you can try and get visitors to share the webpage to gain back links.

Write a post on the site related to the business but make it a controversial or "feel good" story. Then say something like "Share" this if kids make you gray (or whatever relates to the post). Key is you have to stir up emotions then people will share it naturally.

Also, since directories are legal, you could also article market and submit the sites RSS feed to RSS directories, on top of Press Release directories like you mentioned.

Of course, you could do on page SEO for you client, either rewriting the homepage and/or writing lots of optimized post and linking back to the page you want to rank. Internal linking helps.

Make sure their Contact # and a Contact Form w/ a Call to Action is shows on every page/post (so like the phone number can be in the header and a contact form can be in the sidebar).

This is the ultimate test of natural SEO, huh?

      Hi Slf,

Thanks for getting back to me on this. This is actually in Singapore. My client is a legal moneylender and Singapore have a very tight regulation with regards to money lending. I have actually done most the SEO factors that you have mentioned have been creating keyword targeted articles on the site and linking them to both homepages and internal pages. Done the on-page SEO (worried if there is such a thing as over optimization after the two Google animals). Contact details are at the side bar in every page etc... Inner pages linked with keywords anchor and LSI text. Would be sending the RSS feeds to directories like you have mentioned. (gosh why didn't i think of that!)

I love the part about how I should place the share buttons, it's like "I don't have social media pages, but hey, can't stop people from sharing if they like the content on my site ya". Will look into this.

About sharing.... Hmm I guess I would really need to find an interesting angle. Usually people who visits are people seeking for a loan so it's kind of hard, in my opinion, to get them to share. (It is somewhat a culture that it is kind of embarrassing to tell people that you are getting a loan).

I would agree that is this an ultimate test of natural SEO. Really finding it hard to secure page one of Google.

You can actually check the other competitors by searching
"personal loans" in Singapore's Google search. Trying to target this keywords but finding it hard to beat the rest. Some of the competitors seems to be using "black hat" methods to rank... But hey, I can't risk my client's business with those methods...

let me know what you think.

        Hi Johnson:

I agree with the other poster about getting contextual back links from doing guest posts on relevant high quality sites (if that is legal in Singapore).

Also, I use bulk ping to submit to RSS directories. Make sure the page you are trying to rank is in the "Site URL" field. Use Keywords in the "RSS Title" and "Description" field. Free Mass Ping Unlimited Websites or Blogs or RSS on BulkPing.com

See if you can find low competition keywords with decent traffic (instead of battling with the "blackhat" sites). Go to Jaaxy.com and you get 30 free searches. That should get you enough keywords to try and rank for.

Are Singaporeans embarrassed to borrow for investment purposes? Is there any reason that borrowing is justified? If so, write a post about WARNING people how marketing messages encourage you to borrow and not to fall for it. "Share this to get back at those marketers..."

Then, borrowing is only justified for ___________.

If borrowing is not justified for anything, then you're right, it would be tricky to get people to share something they are embarrassed about. I'm sure there's a way. Let's see if other Warriors can come up with a strategy of sharing an embarrassing subject.

  • Solve problems:

Create software, give it away for free. You can outsource all the labor cheap. All you need is a good idea.

At that point just a few emails should get the ball rolling.

    Killer content:

You can also come up of content that solves problems.

Or, look for some content in your niche that is a hot seller such as a book.

Then, write something similar, you can even outsourced this, but give it away for free as a digital download.

If there's a demand for it you shouldn't have a problem getting links.

    Give give give!

I'm curios who ever ranked a single keyword using social media? Get some high quality backlinks from other sites with guest posting and there you go.

Submit Directories. Search engines find your site following the backlinks form other sites. If search engine bots find your link on the directory sites, they will follow those links to your site increasing the chances of your site being indexed in search engine databases. You can use your desired anchor text as a tile which will be eventually hyperlinked to your site giving you an anchor text backlink form the directories. Therefore directory submissions using the keyword as anchor text will increase your link popularity.
