Does the copyright on videos/audio files extend to the written word version?

There was a method recently where people talked about transcribing videos from youtube and there you have a original content that has never been posted anywhere.

Does that method work or is it still considered copyright infringement?

Thanks!

copyright infringement, but it works from a search standpoint.

Instead of transcribing videos verbatim, why don't you consolidate the information, improve upon it, draw in other sources, make it reader friendly, and therein more useful (and search engine friendly from a long tail keyword standpoint) than a competing youtube video?

Of course it's copyright infringement. The medium is irrelevant and copying from one medium (audio) to another (text) is irrelevant. Don't you listen, particularly on sports broadcasts, the copyright notice? They say pretty much the same: "this game is copyrighted and any use in any form in whole or in part is forbidden without written consent from the (team name)". I believe the copyright laws in most countries say the same.

But why would you do that? Transcribing a video takes longer than just writing an article!

Really? I tried it and it's MUCH faster to transcribe than to write an article at the same quality level.

Another thing to do would be not to transcribe word by word but write what we hear in our own words, and perhaps mixing info from 2 or 3 videos.

        Yes, it is copyright infringement.

Over and beyond that, some videos have the transcribed/written content in text form beneath the video.

What I just can't seem to understand is why people want to copy others' work period?

Perhaps they graduated high school by copying and haven't broken the bad habit?
