Is the Backlinking strategy mentioned by Pat Flynn still working? after the penguin, there have been many changes which have led to private blog networks being targetted, the UAW articles being deindexed and blog blueprint vanishing somewhere in the middle. So whats the latest take on the working strategy for ranking site. Thanks in advance.

As a general rule, the less work you have to do to get the backlink, the less effective it's going to be.

Stuff like UAW, blog networks, etc. make it pretty easy to build backlinks. They also make it pretty easy for someone from Google to sign up and start reverse engineering the network so they can discount those links.

Guest blogging, on the other hand, takes more work on your part so it's probably going to be more effective. Depending on where you get your posts placed, of course. Again, it's going to be easier to get posts accepted on lower authority sites, and those links will be less valuable than posts on higher authority sites.

The easier methods may still work, but they're generally going to be less effective and have a higher chance of getting nailed by Google in the long term.

You need to decide whether you want to do easier work that you'll probably have to redo before too long or harder work that will benefit you long term.

    In my opinion, no.

A minority view, perhaps, but to be honest, I believe that for most people it hadn't been working effectively even for quite a while before Google's 2012 algorithm changes.

Yes, that's clearly so. But there's also a lot of evidence that even before "the Penguin", the methods you're referring to weren't working well at all.

Ok I have a new website and I don't know where to start with backlinks. everyone tells me the best way to get results is to pay for backlinks but as a new company money is short and not the biggest pot in the world for marketing, we can see we need to spend money on marketing but we need to build the backlinks and it will take time and we don't expect the money to come flooding in but can anyone give me one direction and not 99 directions that you see online/web. Is everyone just trying to take easy money from a possible victim like Me.?

with the new google updates, you dont have to make bulks of back links to your websites to rank. Manually made high quality few backlinks will be enough. If you are updating your site or blog more recently, without seo also fine.

Outsource – backlink building is grunt work and it’s best to pay someone to do it. You don’t need to spend valuable time creating forum profiles, bookmarking sites or posting blog comments. There are lots of services available on various Internet Marketing forums – and for the most part they are cheap and reliable. Just check feedback on the forums before you buy.

Well, look at his site (securityguardtraininghq.com). Still #1.

That being said, that has more to do with the site accumulating links from random people linking to it when they're talking about Pay (ie. the New York Times).

IMHO I'd avoid the strategy. Even if it works today it's lifespan is VERY limited.

As per the latest updates, creating & generating natural links is the biggest challenge for all web masters. One who are creating natural, relevant links to their sites, which is good to them.
