How Google calculates what is a low competition keyword?

Hi everybody. I spent some time searching for keywords. When i find a 1000 exact searches keyword with a low competition - i can understand that and i can imagine it will not be difficult to rank for it. But i saw many keywords with 22200 or even few of 201000 and 450000 exact searches per month - all of them with low competition. And they are not some rare keywords, it is clear that if they have so many searches they are not some strange exotic phrases but something regular. I am sure that the competition for them, no matter low, is still bigger than the competition for the 1000 searches keyword. Is there a tool that shows or explains this? When they say "low competition" does it means some % of the exact search number? If i need for example 2 months to rank for the 1000 KW, do i need also just 2 months for the 201000 KW? Thank you

    Low competition means low amount of paid advertisers that use the Adwords program.

    This has totally nothing to do with organic competition in the SERPS.

        You have to analyze the top 3 websites in the SERP. Those are your competition. Check backlinks, site structure, internal linking, etc.

            Hi,

            is there a difference I must notice to make money online and get a good ranking;

            A) Must affiliate products keywords - have low adwords competitors to make sales online???

            B) Must adsense niche keywords must have high adwords competition to get a good payout???

            I think there is an difference between theese, please correct me if im wrong.

            best wishes

        You can use a tool like SEOMoz or SerpIQ, those numbers are somewhat reliable.

        When using SEOMoz make sure that you give more attention to the page authority of the sites then that you only look at the competition % cause that's also flawed pretty often.

    Thank you guys. Now i checked, the one with 201000 searches has Asos on top of the SERP, means never gonna rank my website? The other keywords only result with blogs on top of the SERP. Actually no matter these are blogs, they are also somewhat competition because they keep me away from page 1 in one way or another?

    I have no idea what Asos is or what your kw is so impossible to answer you.

    Anyway go sign up for SerpIQ, you can find it on Google, you can sign up for free and check the competition, if it's higher then 50% then it would be a pretty bad choice for a beginner.

    I did the research you suggested. It is a bit confusing to see a word of 30000 global searches to get 280 google.COM searches but maybe i am not yet oriented what i am doing and i m mostly analyzing it wrong. Most of the words are 40-51% competition level. My concern is - no one can outrank websites like Wikipedia or Ehow and then there are websites like Asos.com and others in top 1000 of Alexa. Does this mean that if on page 1 of the SERP there are many top1000 of Alexa site's i should not work on those keywords? Thank you
