I just paied a seo company 350 dollars to get 10 of my keywords into first page of google in 3 months,,,,,,
I just keep wandering if I have made a wise dessicion and if I am ever going to get ROI to cover this cost?
My affiliate product gives 25 comision on every sale,,,,so my calculation was

10 keywords= 200,000 of traffic, if I only get 5 percent of that= 10,000 traffic
conversion rate 1 percent= 2500 in sales?

Is my calculation logical?
I really need your opinion

If you say 2,00,000 per month local traffic from 10 keywords then i will consider 2% maximum of those traffic (as i am not sure the vertical position etc and you also need to understand between local and global search aspect. As you are promoting affiliate product so those are mostly country specific.)

So, if we consider that 2% then per month 4,000 traffic.
Now that 4000 traffic land in your website and then how is your landing page is depends on that the conversion take place. Normally SEO conversion rate is less than PPC as PPC traffic is much more targeted. I will consider around 0.50% conversion rate.

Note: The above calculation is dependent on the targat market, landing page qulaity, targated keywods and site relevancy, traffic quality. This can vary around 20%.

So, effectively 20 sales per month. Assume per sales you generate $25 per sale then $500 per month. And this will be constant flow for some months (if properly seo is done) and you can easily get you money invested in your seo.

So, not bad investment if the result and work done by your seo team properly.

First page is essentially useless. You get very few clicks after position 4.

Thanks for your reply but I wander how come your statment could be true,,,,
In ppc campaigns up to position 8 gets good clicks,,,,and that considering that few people click on ppc ads.

        Thank you for your replies.
I lately saw a study which mentions that the last site in the first page of google gets 2 percent of the whole traffic. So if this was true I will be getting 2000 clicks per month,,,still not bad,,,,
I mean it will cost much more to get these clicks from cpc . Average cpc in my niche is 1,5 ,,,
inspite of the fact that cpc traffic converts better

Seems like you'll have a decent ROI, but it really depends on the work being done the by SEO company you hired.. It's all a matter of making sure you achieve those rankings, what positions, and if they are stable for the time period you need to recoup the expenses and turn a profit.

Thank you for your replies. It seems there is no fixed answer since there are many so many variables.
My product is a pc cleaner software, and I have cloned the vendors page exactly so that it converts better. I have off course manually spinned the text so that it does not count as duplicate in the eyes of Google.
The good thing is that the seo company offers a money back garentee if I did not rank for any of these words first page. Hopefully I will rank high enough in first page to make some sales.

Just a tip, if you're paying for SEO you should be shooting for orginal content on your money site.. But all the best, I hope your venture works out.

well you can say the content is original . I have changed it word by word so that it does not bear any similarity to the original....
But I had to clone the vendors webpage design becuase I think they must have studdied the best deisgn that converts well. I do not have the luxury of expermenting with a new design.

I hope it works,,,,I really need it.

It depends what keywords you are ranking for.

    A quick example would be:
1st page of Google for "car insurance" = $xxxx - $xx,xxx per month
1st page of Google for "how to paint an apple" = $x - $xx per month

First let me echo, while the 1st page is good.. only the top 3 pay on a consistent basis and you will see a very clear different from positions 1, 2 and 3. An example for a page I am working on at the moment works like this:
    Position
    3: Earns about 1 to 2 dollars a day
    2: Earns about 4 to 6 dollars a day
1: Earns about 15 dollars or better a day

Now one big factor is the number of searches and potential traffic, this is based on 5400 a month. I would make sure you know their policy concerning the need for them to remove links and get it in writing now because I have noticed a few threads recently regarding this and some clients having to pay to get the work done. Just know what you are getting into up front especially with Google updates coming down the road.

But then one more thing: other seo companies charge up to 1,500 dollars for the same service,, and people are still ordering from them.
This particular fact gave me the impression that a first page placment has a great potential

    200,000 (traffic) x 40% (rough estimate for 1st SERP position) = 80,000

    80,000 (actual traffic to your page) x 1% (on-page conversion rate) = 800

    800 (actual converted traffic) x $25 (commission per sale) = $20,000

Assumes your sales page consistently has a 1% conversion rate. The first SERP position traffic will probably be maxed out at/around 40% of the total 200K traffic that's available, so the rough estimate above is on the high side.

Subtract roughly 25% for tax (assume your in the US) that leaves you $15,000. Then you'll have to subtract the cost of delivering that traffic to your sales page (SEO, PPC, whatever).

Remember that 200K traffic assumes you rank #1 for all the keywords combined that make up that 200K traffic.

Also assumes that 200K traffic is local traffic estimates & not global traffic.

Personally I would deduct all expenses (tax, traffic cost, etc...) then divide that number by 2, for a more realistic earnings projection. So If I estimated I was going to earn $15,000 after all deductions, I would divide that by 2 (50%):

    $15,000 / 2 = $7,500
I would rather bank higher than my estimated earnings, than expect to earn a higher amount of money & it never happen.

Lovely estimation,,,,makes my mouth water for the sense of money!!Especially that I do not have to pay taxes.
but really I do not expect to rank first for any of these words,,,,probably only for one if I were lucky. My site is brand new and my maximum wish is between 500/1000 dollars per month,,,,,

That should be fairly easy considering you said the commission payout is $25 per conversion. That's only 20 sales per month to earn $500 (less than 1 sale per day). Average 1 sale per day & you should be good to go with your target earnings.

How are you calculating the 200,000 monthly visitors?

This is an important point as a lot of people get this calculation completely wrong and find even with #1 rankings, they are only getting a small trickle of the traffic they were expecting.

I did not make the calculation myself,,,,the seo expert gave me a traffic estimation of 215 , 000 exact monthly searches of my traffic, and said sites in the first page get 5/10 percent of that,,,,
I assume this is the sum of all exact searches for my 10 keywords,,,,,

In that case, their calculation is roughly on the mark assuming they used the correct figures.

Did the SEO company give you the list of keywords they will be ranking for?

For such a large amount of traffic, I would be highly suspicious of any company that would claim they can rank 10 keywords for only $350.

    Something doesn't add up.

Actaually I gave them the list of the 10 keywords and they did the traffic estimation. But the words really get lots of searches globaly....
What occured to me now is that they have calculated the global searches not the local USA searches. Although thier sales page clearly states that this offer is in one countery for one langauge,,,,,,
Still I tend to believe them, though I am usually a skeptic person.

You should have asked this before you paid. Well now it depends on that company whether they can take you to page 1.

This was mentioned above but needs to be reiterated. NO company can guarantee results within 3 months. They "may" be able to achieve this if the terms are not at all competitive but you need to be extremely careful because companies who provide these guarantees often use techniques that provide short term success but, in the long run, get you permanently removed from Google.

What shall I say, I rank quite a few sites with a $400 budget and often, in case of affiliate sites they end up with 200 unique visitors/day. When monetized with Amazon that brings in at least $150+/month in most cases so it's the investment worth in that case as sites that bring in $150/month sell for $1500,- so not much lost there.

In case it's some clickbank type of product then expect conversions around 0,25-0,50% so with 200 unique's day that is 0,5 or 1 sale a day, * $25 = good deal I would say.

And like I said, if you have a good site with good original content and the SEO supplies has a strong private network to rank you then it's possible that you get a decent ROI from it.

Most SEO providers who come up with these guarantees for such low amounts of money are often not worth much though. I never guarantee anything and still get tons of clients, cause in most cases I do book results.
