To Ping or Not To Ping?

Recently I've seen very mixed opinions about whether or not to ping backlinks.

Things with Google are constantly changing, and I would love to hear your view about pinging over the past 6 months.

Are you for or against, and why?

What have your recent experiences been with:
- Free pinging services
- BacklinksIndexer
- Lindexed
- Linklicious
- Pingler

Personally I have found that carefully pinging backlink urls over an extended period of time using paid indexing services has produced good results, while using the free services seems to have very poor results. Has this been the same for you?

Do you use a site or service that you are happy with (based on the past 6 months)?

Always the paid service is much better than the free one and indexing backlinks is very important to get good SERP results.

Just let Google find the backlink on their own. Google's Algo is always searching the web, visiting sites. Nothing is more natural than a link being found by Google on it's own... without you bringing attention to it.

I don't ping, and further, on all my websites I use cbnet ping optimizer so I won't ping all the time. It's useless, but still most of the people i know love to ping. Also most of the clients are like "are you pinging?? "

Conclusion - let google find the stuff alone.

Indexing services build links to your links and thats how they get indexed,if you build low quality links, then you might want to use it,I personally don't use any indexing service.Quality what matters.

Use it if you are doing case study of which link is stronger on same competition sites.

Bing has been increasing their share of the search engine market recently, but Google is still the major player...

As others have said, I recommend not pinging them at all.

You don't want all these links getting indexed at the same time. Let the crawlers find them naturally.

What about dripfeeding urls to ping so that they are not all getting indexed at the same time, but rather spread out over time? Have you used that method? What did you think of results?

I ping my secondary links that get pointed at my tiers. Then the tiers get crawled back to my site. If you just build lots of pr 0 links then very few of them will be found/indexed. Its almost a requirement that you actively bring them to google's attention.

This is the best way to ping--if the links go out over time, and don't all hit at once, they stand a much better chance of helping your site to rank, and will eventually be indexed.

The natural crawling rate of google to every possible site and link on the internet is really quite slow. Now, if you are lucky enough to have a backlink from abc news, best buy, amazon, or any other really high authority site, then no, pinging it wouldn't be necessary--but really, how many of us have those types of links, or could afford them if we could get them? That's where the lower authority links come in, they can be had in mass for a relatively cheap price, and, if used the right way, can be quite beneficial.

Pinging these types of links has been proven time and again to get them crawled, and the indexing rate of crawled links is far higher and faster than if you just wait for the google crawlers to find them, if they are ever found at all, naturally. Even High quality sites use pinging/crawling services when they have fresh content going up frequently, so they can ensure that their content is pushed out that much more quickly

        • I ping backlinks when starting new website just to give it a bit of initial boost.
To avoid overdoing I ping no more than 20-30 backlinks a day in batches of 5-10 backlinks.

If I want to get to page one of google or youtube fast, I ping the links and the backlinks and I use the free services, they have always worked fine for me.

Once on page one, I don't ping often. It is mostly to get a faster start.

Na, haven't tried that. But it would probably have better results than pinging all of your backlinks at the same time.

Only 1 way to find out tho

If your backlinks are high PR then they will get ping fairly quickly anyway so I wouldn't worry about pinging.

If you doing massive SB blasts with 10k backlinks with little to no PR then pinging may help to get some more juice.

I have been taught to leave it to Goolge to find it as it looks more natural. May take longer but safer.

Usually i don't ping at all but when my pages are taking time to index then for the time being i ping just once.Mass ping is not recommended by me.Natural indexing i guess is worth it than pinging with some software.

Yes, I had noticed that change. I have a tool where I set up the ping servers (FREE) details and URLs to ping. Before Google panda, the links were indexed faster, but now it is bit slower, and sometimes nothing happened, So I used different trick to do so, it works. Of course, Backlink to Backlink, even it requires more time and effort, it becomes more natural & carries more value in terms of SERP compare to using "Paid" ping services
