Let say that we are promoting affiliate programs. And our main goal is traffic that converts into sales, which would you go for?

Would you do one without the other?

- Link Building (blog comments, buying links, link directories, buying blog posts, forum sig, etc)

- Article Marketing (aggressive article writing/re-writing & submission)

Hope to hear your input, opinion and experience.

I'd have to say article marketing. It's hands down one of the best long term methods around.

  • I would use article writting, blogs and YouTube video's. Link them all together and you will get ranked high in the search engines for free if you do it right.

When you say blogs, you mean satellite blogs like Blogger.com, WordPress.com, Weebly.com, etc... yeah, I've heard about linking web2.0 sites all together... thanks for sharing

          Hi kidino,

Article marketing is link building. It can have an advantage over some other types of link building since you are creating much of the content of the linking page. However, a link from a very hot topic page could be worth more than a hundred articles.

In link building it's really good idea to get links from a variety of different places so that it appears more natural.

            HI dburk,
Agree with you. But if you are going to list the link building strategies in terms of its effectiveness, which one will you choose in descending order...
Blog commenting, articles, forum signatures, directories, buying links, link reciprocal, etc...

            thanks

              Hi puti1,

It is different on a case by case basis. Often the very best links can only be had by purchasing them. So I would have to say that would frequently net you the most effective links.

Guest blogging and syndicating articles would be next on my list followed by blog commenting and forum signatures.

well, if you are for affiliate sales, article marketing is better. But link building will boost your site search engine ranking but normally you won't see any results after three months of doing it...

Yeah Don, that's why I ask this.

With article marketing, though you are also link building, your inbound links are mostly limited from article directories. Where as strategic link building, you can target those from blog comments, social pages, satellite blogs, link directories, text links, etc...

Being aware of those, that's why I started the thread.

When it comes to effort, IMHO, link building is more straightforward because you get links right away without having to think much about content creation.

But when it comes to getting traffic that converts, hmm...

      Hi kidino,

Actually, most article directories are designed to syndicate your articles to other websites, so if you write great content you will get traffic from a lot more places than just the directories.

You can also do guest authoring or contribute articles to popular websites and get paid to do so. The are many strategies available to you in the article marketing arena.

You're right, often the quickest and easiest thing to do is buy a link or blurb from another site that's hot in your niche.

Submitting articles to EZA has been hands down the best strategy for me when it comes to promoting affiliate programs. As far as backlinks go, if you write compelling content for EZA it will be picked up by other webmasters, and providing you've left a live link to your site in your resource box, you'll get a natural backlink from every website that republishes your article.

Article for short term is great. For long term you should build partnership around the niche, not just link.

If i was new in affiliate marketing i would definitely start out with article marketing, not only are you getting targeted traffic, you are also building links to your site. Once i have got the hang of affiliate marketing, then i will start linking and targeting specific keywords.

      Hey Kidino,

I've been writing articles for a couple of my niches sites and they have done well with traffic and rankings. I've got a couple that are PR2 within 6-8 months.

Another good thing about articles is that many of them continue to drive traffic long after you write them.

      What do you think?

Article writing and link building should go hand in hand. I have been getting good results by using both these. I think you should try it out!!

I agree with another person's comment that article building can also be link building since you are creating anchor texts back to your sites pages. But yeah, since Kidino did define what he meant by link building, it helps alot...agreed.

To this day, I still do directory submissions and get pretty good results. Also do software directory submissions as a lot of these software directories have high pr rankings and give back some good "link juice".

The best long term method is to build links to your articles so they rank. Then they live by themselves and drive constant traffic to you.

article marketing is part of link building. Once you did article submission and it is approved. It is considered as backlink
