Question on SEO and PLR articles

I added a bunch (40+) PLR articles to my brand new site. My goal was to have a site with a lot of content already provided. However, I began reading about penguin/panda and how they treat duplicate content. I did some searching and realized that the PLR articles I added are appearing on other sites, so I don't think google will index any of the 40+ pages.

My question is this. Should I delete all the pages with the PLR articles, or should I go back in and rewrite all the articles and hope that google will return and index those URLs?

(Note: my domain is already indexed in google, and so are my category pages, however the individual posts are not)

Thanks.

Rewriting them should work so long as they are unique in the end. After that, log in to your Google Webmaster tool and get Google to crawl your site again.

Personally, I would remove the pages with unedited PLR, rewrite them and add them as new pages.

And I would probably not just rewrite them, but combine some of them if the topics are close enough, maybe break others up into shorter posts and generally mix things up as much as possible.

You don't want way more duplicate content on your site then you do unique content. There is nothing wrong with curating a few articles that add to your site but Google won't look at you kindly if most of your site is made up of duplicate content.

First, let me clear up the duplicate content myth:

Duplicate content is content that appears more than one time on your own website. It does not refer to content that appears on more than one website out there. If that were the case, a whole hell of a lot of sites would be out of business (such as news sites).

The issue you have is whether you'll ever be able to rank those articles in Google's results. They'll still get indexed eventually. They just won't appear anywhere near the top (or even middle) of Google unless you have some authority.

I wouldn't bother going back and deleting all those articles. Better to go back and see where you can add value and do some editing.

If you have a good sense of your target market, think about that as you read through each article. Then rewrite the title and add a new introductory sentence and conclusion. Maybe change or add some sentences here and there.

Then look again and see what else you can add to make the article valuable to your market. Maybe you need to add more content, images, graphics, or a video or audio.

What Google cares about is whether you are providing quality content that provides what people are searching for. That's the business they're in. Stick with that in mind and you'll be fine.

So if I add one 400-500 words unique article to my website and then submit same article to various article directory sites. This is not a duplicate content right?

      1 article + 50 article directory = Not Duplicate?

Yes you need to delete the pages with the immediate effect otherwise your website can be penalized by search engines. You can't post any content which is published anywhere on the web,
