Why this website is number one on google for an ultra competitive term?

How to Buy Viagra - Where to Buy | Viagra Online pill shop - lowest prices! is #1 for the term "buy viagra" which is ultra competitive.

I had a discussion with my colleagues, my statement was that we need diverse anchor text and relevant, quality content in order to rank.

This site has neither. The home page content has NOTHING to do with this pharma store and they are essentially a "thin affiliate" page offer nothing of value.

According to me, this page should not rank, but it does, and in one of the most competitive fields on the internet. Over 90% of the incoming links has "buy viagra" in the string.

Can anyone explain me, how is this site ranking #1 and not getting a penalty from Google?

That site doesn't rank on page 1 for either the broad or phrase match result.

You are most likely seeing personalised Google results.

This site is in 3rd position here.
And PR of this site is 6! that`s too much I think.
So its shows that they didn`t much link building work.

Does anyone know how to get a link from reference.com? I've noticed several of our competitors have multiple links there, but I can't figure out how to add our site to the lists.

(If there's a WSO on this topic, I'd definitely purchase it.)

      Some factors why it might:

      1) Has a link from wikipedia
      2)Has links from huffington post
      3) Has link from nytimes
      4)Has link from reference.com
      5)Link from cbsnews.com
      6) Link from nasa.gov

And many more, you get those links and you will be on top too

They will also be using a network of hacked sites to drop hidden links along with the usual 301 techniques to pass authroity.

The viagra SERPS are interesting to watch, and you need to dig far beyond the first tier of links to get a picture of what is really going on

Might be an eye opener for all those uninformed people that think black hat techniques still don't work.

I'd bet the site won't stay there though. They tend to fall, get deindexed, or disappear. Then a new crop of sites take their place.

He's stuffing hidden text (lol): Google Cache, compare the live HTML source code to the Cache page.

Not too difficult to find all his main keywords.

Probably has 10 more domains on standby, waiting for a smack down on the currently ranked domain/page.

They probably use a churn and burn philosophy. Build the site up quickly using black hat SEO and when it crashes and burns, do it all over again. Profitable but exhausting

Yes it is no.1 for me too.

Reason why it ranking No. 1 is because they have hacked several trusted sites like university sites and have placed their link.

I've spent the last 59 months building 412 MFA sites. Each site averages 8 cents per day...I said average, some make up to 17 cents per day, PASSIVE INCOME! This income allows me to live comfortably and buy ANY flavor Jolly Rancher or Skittles I desire. Don't give in to fear, it CAN be done!

What is the shocking part? You didn't know that there were websites 15 years ago?

Wow this very interesting... If you look at the sitemap, that page does not even appear...so if you type the home page it appears as a main not for profit website about horatio algier awards... But they have all those pages invisible from people that get to their website...in order for you to get there you need to look for the keyword...
