Backlinking Confusion

Hi, I hope I posted this in the right section.
I have a few questions about backlinks, I have been reading over some of the threads about it and it is like the more I read the more questions I end up having.

I wanted to know when building a link wheel/pyramid do my articles need to be original for the web 2.0 sites that will be pointing back to my site?

Also should I point all the tier 1 links to my homepage or mix it up with links to within my site?

Which links should I point to pages within my site if any at all?

Anyone who can help me clear up this confusion is appreciated!

I'm not into Link wheels very much but the general rule for all link building is that the ones that are pointing back to your site are best if they are within content/context ( what Google calls editorial links). These days post penguin especially the other kinds of links should just be supporting your contextual links.

Thats why Web 2.0s are popular these days since you can put a whole lot more content and context into sites that allow you to write extended content and not just a link like Bookmarks, profiles or even blog comments.

I would go for original content for my web 2.0s since they are pointing back to my money site but I have no doubt you will hear different.

Thanks for the info, if you do not do link wheels, just curious what method do you use to build backlinks? I thought that was the only backlinking method..

Oh, ok thanks for clearing that up! I think I was getting the two mixed up thinking the terms wheels and pyramids were interchangeable.
