Most white-hat 'feeder site' method?

I'm running an online cloud tool, let's say in theory it's the project management tool: BaseCamp.
I've got some domains that I would like to use as some type of feeder sites. i.e: projectmanagement.org and projectmanagement.co.uk
What would be the best way to utilize these feeder domains?
1. I assume the best content to put on the sites would be general informational articles about how great online project management is?
2. What's the best way to get people to sign up to my main service without making the feeder sites look dodgy and without risk of hurting my main or feeder website rankings?...
a) Simply link the text "Project Management" etc -> basecamp.com in the articles? This is a bit obvious, and might hurt rankings? I really don't want to risk hurting my main website SERP.
b) List a bunch of online services including both my own and my competitors? The site would basically be a directory of project management tools. Some how I would need to promote my own site a bit more than the others without being too obvious.
c) Actually allow the user to sign up to the service using a form on the feeder site. I would have to state on the form that they're actually signing up for the name of my service, i.e: "basecamp"? Does having sign up forms on multiple websites make my company look dodgy? And would Google consider this to be spammy? Using this method I wouldn't actually need any backlinks to my main site.
Anybody got any advice on any of this or anything related? I want to do this in the most legitimate way possible while still gaining new interested customers through the feeder domains.
