Hi,

I am getting SEO done on two of my websites on movies and laptops, which are there in my signature. It's been over a month since my SEO guy is doing SEO for movies site and it's been a month for my laptop site. Apart from this I am also doing my bit. Since this is the first time I am getting these services done my question is what kind of traffic can I expect after a month's SEO. My SEO fellow keeps assuring me that traffic will increase. Well, when will it increase??! And what kind of traffic can I expect? Is there a rough estimate - any rough figures? I am running out of patience!

1 month in SEO is nothing in most cases. More like 3 months for things to get serious.

Now how much traffic will you get? You'll know when you start ranking.

Otherwise you could run an adwords campaign for keywords you're targeting and see how many impressions you get.

Or for less accurate estimate go to adwords keyword tool and see how many searches your keywords get per month.

Also those numbers wont tell how much traffic YOU will get but how traffic there is OVERALL.

You may get a higher or lower portion of that. It depends on various factors like:

Are the terms highly commercial? If yes there will be many paid placements taking large amount of traffic.

    SEO takes time.

I am just going to 2nd the above post, nothing and takes about 3 months before a page creates a steady stream of traffic. How much traffic, really depends upon your keyword.

Can't give a rough estimation like this. First of all it depends on how many exact searches you keywords have in Google SE. As you rise up slowly, you can see increase in the traffic. Once you get into the first page you'll see nice rise in the traffic.

The 1st place at Google gets around 40% of the traffic and around 13-17 for the 2 nd 3rd position and keeps going down after that. You can estimate yourself.

    e.g. If you keyword has 3000 exact searches at Google 1, then you can expect 3000/30= 100X0.4 = 40 visitors/day at 1 and 12-17 UV/day at 2-3 position.

Also, concentrate on different source of traffic as Google is not a reliable source. You can lose your rankings with a sudden algo change and then need to start up right from the beginning. Learn atleast 2-3 good ways of dirving traffic.

Depending on your niche see what kinda traffic works best for you.

For me, Youtube is a nice source of traffic, you may give it a try.

If you reach number 1 then you can expect roughly half of the exact local searches per month.
First you got to get to number 1!

Getting 80% traffic in 1 month hardly happens in rare cases. To get maximum traffic on your both websites it will take at least 3 to 4 months if your seo fellow is doing his work daily & spending most of his time on forums & blogs. Further more, use social websites to get traffic quickly.

Yeah. Like everyone else said, wait another couple of months or maybe three. SEO does take some time.

    Hey manishak!

Those are actually some pretty difficult keywords you're going after. I see some PR5 and PR6 pages that are ranking right now. I've started a ton of sites and based on what I've seen in the past, it's going to take at least three or four months and that's IF your guy knows what he's doing. If he doesn't, it's never going to happen.

The laser hair removal site actually doesn't look as difficult which is good. But, I've operated in that niche before and since it's a highly-spammed niche, Google will probably slow down the process so it's still going to take quite a while. Sometimes you get lucky and that isn't the case but that isn't likely in your situation - because of the niche.

The short answer is "How long is a piece of string?" There are so many variables here, it's truly impossible to give an informed answer to your question. I do have some observations that may be helpful, though. First off, if you are running out of patience after a month, this may not be the business for you. I am not saying this to be mean, but I have sites going back over a decade and it took some of them 18-24 months to realize their true potential. Had I given up on them, they never would have succeeded. So, sit back and take a deep breath. Your site needs to reach at least the 12 month mark to gain some trust with Google. Google engineers know that most scammers register domains for a year and dump the ones that don't make money. People who build sites that they are passionate about renew the domains and keep them regardless of income. In fact, there are some people who suggest that you create authority sites and register the domain for more than a year up front. Whatever you choose to do, if you add content and links regularly (and don't go crazy), then your sites WILL improve in rankings.

I almost forgot one very important thing. Building sites is like prospecting for gold. You have some idea of where to look, but you need to keep prospecting until you find the gold. You may have to build 10, 20, 30 or more sites before you hit the big one. Keep this in mind: if you build 100 sites, the top 5 will account for 80% of the income. You will never find those 5 if you don't build the 95 other ones
