How long should I give him?

I hired a virtual assistant to do some SEO work for me about 16 days
ago. Since that time, he has worked for about 12 hours... but my
search engine position has not increased.

My question is: How long should I give him? I've heard that SEO
can take 4-6 weeks... but at the same time, I'm a bit concerned
that I've seen no improvement over the last 2+ weeks.

Your thoughts?

Three months, and hope that he knows what he's doing. I began doing SEO on my own sites and I didn't notice any real change for at least 30 days, however 90 days seems to give a more firm reposition.

Is he only doing On-Page optimization or is he building backlinks for you too? You can optimize your website for SEO to your heart's desire, but unless you are advertising your link no one will find it.

Getting ranked on the first page of Google can take time especially if there is a lot of competition. That is why you have to continually add quality content to your sites as well as advertise your link on as many networks as you can.

Look at the largest companies in the world Coca-Cola, Apple, etc. They spend MILLIONS on advertising every month because IT WORKS.

That's why, in my opinion, On-Page optimization is definitely a beneficial component in running a successful website, but it's not entirely necessary.

All you really need is to ADVERTISE. You can have just a Phone number on a blank page and you will get calls if you are advertising to the right people.

If your SEO guy is optimizing On-Page and Off-page then there is no reason why your site shouldn't improve rankings and traffic at least some. But generally, if it is taking longer than 6 months to get ranked 1st with an aggressive SEO campaign then it might be time to try something else.

        Off-page SEO only.

Have you asked him what his expectation is of how long much time he needs to get results and what results he expects?

Well hopefully your holding the VA accountable for their time & not just letting them do whatever they want & claiming time worked.

What are you doing to ensure the VA is actually doing any work?

You can wait until a month. That's enough to see if he will deliver good results or not.

16 days are very short time of period. I think you may must wait more 2 to 3 weeks to get results.

      Isn't 16 days over 2 weeks?

How long have I been asleep?

He's using white hat techniques. Lots of blog commenting, it seems. (Are these still relevant after Google Penguin?)

Blog commenting is long gone, it may even bring negative seo to your website.

In sporadic cases it takes 6 weeks to see results, no matter what type of links you build. Don't ask me why but I've seen it a few times.

Depend on the popularity of keyword you are building, but overall I will say at least 2 months to see the result.

Share one example, if you submit article into free site, sometime it may take 4-6 weeks to review and publish the contents.

Get him to spend some time actually either contact people related in your niche and building backlinks manually that way or maybe source somewhere decent to purchase some backlinks from. Remember its all about quality of the backlink and not the quantity. Pointless getting hundreds of shitty backlinks from non related crappy websites. Get your hands on a few decent niche related links.

I hope you are getting a report back of what he is doing, especially with links for you to check out. If you spend 5 dollars at fiverr you get that....
