    I've never had great luck in terms of traffic, but have got a few good backlinks from them

      Google still notice article submission sites and still you can get good quality backlinks and targeted traffic from them. I personally like ezinearticles, articlebase and ideamarketers the most.

      Basically Tumblr is a blogging platform like blogger, wordpress etc..
      But you can also use it for link building purpose by sharing your content on it with you site link back.

    A minor note for anyone getting ready to start with Ezine Articles: Make sure your backlinks are in your Resource Box and not in your main article. You are allowed some outbound links from your article itself, but they are not supposed to point to your own site.

    Squidoo and Hubpages outrank Ezine Articles (the number 1 article directory), as does Scribd, another place to put your articles.

    Do a search in the search engines for the Top 50 Article Directories. Excellent list of places to post your articles to get the most traffic from article marketing.
