Making a Funny Pictures Site like 9gag/DamnLOL Need Suggestion

Hello guys,

I am thinking of making a site like 9Gag/DamnLOL the funny pictures site. I was wondering whether to go for a script that is available for purchase or make a site on wordpress platform

Using scripts would it affect SEO ?

What do you guys suggest making use of script or wordpress platform?

Would appreciate any suggestions

        2. SEO plugins will help you

          I would agree with this.

          You should be aware though that in the future if your site gets HUGE and has massive amounts of users and visitors, you will need to be prepared to modify your WP install or go to a professional CMS.

          WordPress is great, but it does lack alot of functionality that the more powerful CMS's provide, i.e. Drupal

    I made HTTP://massivelolz.com the hard part is getting visitors to submit content so I agregate content to start.

    need to work on it really!

        Yea WP, can't remember theme but I edited it quite a bit.

        Traffic around 500 a month but only been around 2 months and haven't done any link building

    I agregate content to start.
    This will probably be your best bet.

    It will take a while before you get users sendings stuff in.

    I would suggest making a one off niche site like...

    Is it safe to put Adsense on these type of sites ? I mean there isn't much text based content on such sites per se... so just wondering if adsense is ok on such sites... if not what are the other ways to monetize ?

    I wanted to get a meme generator on there and charge people to download. Thats one idea to monetize but never had the time to dev it!

    I also thought of creating something like this few months back but what is stopping me from doing this is content. I mean these sites would require great funny content on regular basis.. any ideas where to get the top notch content from before sites takes off and we start getting user generated content.

    rss feeds off other sites is a good place to start.

    Another option I was looking into was writing a script to download facebook pics from groups such as lad bible and reposting on my site

      I was even searching for the similar post.... I have my similar kind of website too, For which i am using the damnLOL script... But truly speaking it is not as much adsense integrated script.,. As i was getting the visitors from facebook but just the impressions.. People come watch the Pic.. comment on facebook as "lol" or "Funny".. They will like it.,.. Thats it....
      It was not worth for me.. So i am too searching for the wordpress probably so that it will be a good for SEO prospective as well. And i can integrate the ads as per my needs...

      Any thought for me?

    I just built a site using wordpress and MeGusta. Super easy to use and set up. I havent done any promoting and its getting some traffic already. I have posted a few of the images on Pinterest, so I guess a little bit of promotion.

    I had alot of questions about megusta before i purchased, bought it anyway and dont regret it. PM me if anyone has any questions about it.

      I tried MeGusta also But found that it is a very Slow theme. Even with a Cache Plugin and no other Plugins the site was still slow. I found PixelPower from Themeforest also and really love it.
      Also for the question of content in my sig web Content Databases I have a Starter Funny Pics package that can get you started with content. has titles and file names to get you started.

        I'm thinking about doing something similar...

        I found the sites: damnlolclone.com and damnlolscript.com which seem to offer some plug/play options for this type of site.

        However (I need to do some more investigating with the people offering the packages), I'm looking to have user generated content using some "standard" background images similar to Someecards. I don't want people uploading pictures to the site that I'd have to monitor for quality and/or copyright. I just want users to generate the words ala memegenerator.

        Anyone know how to achieve the user generated photo with a standard background?

    Go for wordpress because they provide awesome themes, and yup it is safe to use adsense with funny pictures sites all you need is to provide the alt texts because Google only see text.
