Well, it is official now. I had my worst earnings day under adsense since 2006. 2 yrs ago it used to be a low of $12 up to $60. Yesterday, I made zilch (or jack-squat as Chris Farley used to say).

I guess you gotta hit rock bottom before having success in something else. It was always an added amount to pay bills and invest anyway. Another thing that is also official, more than ever, is to never put place a large percentage of your business into 1 main channel (like SEO) to generate traffic. I have been building a list for about a year and looking into banner ads. So, I still feel kind of good as all is not lost.

If you kept track of the traffic/keyword sources that generated the $12-$60 it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out how to continue with $12-$60 in Adsense money.

Did you keep all that data?

Yeah diversification is key. Especially when you are relying on Google to send you traffic or make you money. They can definitely be great for both, but they've also been very unpredictable lately.

The book sounds like a great idea. You can put a lot of time into building up an affiliate base.

      Yukon,

I did track that data. I know which keywords lost gobs of traffic. I believe ( have not proven it) that my sites got marked as spammy. The content is unique, well written, with other authoritative sources yet have fallen out 1st page rankings after being there for 6+ years.

So, it was never duplicate and not much in the way of over-optimization. Penguin killed me. Traffic is down 70-to-80%. I am experimenting with some legit white-hat service to rise once again. As of now, it is not working.

Maybe, I need to not have affiliate links,(cloaked links), have the robots all allowed (and not disallowed). I don't know. Link out to more authority sites on the same previously high traffic page. It just has not worked. Anyone who has looked at my sites likes the professional appearance. They are not wordpress driven either. They have good useful content and even videos and images. 10,000 visitors down to 2600 b/c of nothing shady just isn't right. It's my fault anyway until I implement ALL forms of traffic.

Just wondering... Can't you just build a couple of new sites? You obviously know what you are doing.

I am where you were a few years ago, and I have been warned (a lot) not to put all the eggs in one basket.

I know building new sites is a pain, but it will definitely be a lot faster than the first time.

While I am still extremely new at this all things considered one thing that has stuck out like a sore thumb in recent months is the constant need to expand not just what keywords you are getting traffic from but also income streams as well. In my original plan I wanted to do Adsense for the first year (ends in February) and then start looking at other things however thanks to recent updates my traffic has gone through the roof so started to look at adding some CPA and perhaps BSA to my site.

I do have to admit have had a few odd days this month as well, going from my best day ever to some mind blowing 10 cent clicks.. over and over and over and over again. Nothing like seeing 60+ clicks all paying 10 cents each.

My AdSense has been terrible this month. It's been hard to pin down. Traffic is the same, CTR has even gone up. I think I just had a couple of good months over the Summer and now it's just back to normal.
