1. keyword

2. "keyword"

3. intitle:keyword

4. intitle:"keyword"

5. inanchor:keyword

6. inanchor:"keyword"

7. intitle:keyword

8. intitle:keyword inanchor:keyword

9. intitle:"keyword" inanchor:"keyword"

10. allintitle:keyword

11. allintitle:"keyword"

12. allinanchor:keyword

13: allinanchor:"keyword"

I have seen that people mostly refer to 4 and 9, they also mention to use the allintitle and allinanchor. It has confused me alot. I it in DP and sitepoint but got no response. Please Assist.

Thanks.

Ok, There is no need to worry lot about the competition. Because google latent semantic indexing, you can rank well for many keywords without optimizing. Simple write articles with many longtail keywords seeded in your article.

For approx competition estimation you can use simply "keyword". This one will bring alll the pages that have the keyword.

Use allintitle:"keyword" This one will bring all the pages that were optimized for this keyword in the title itself.

I every time use just "keyword" that way you can get all pages on the internet that have that keyword and see how many pages are ranking for that keyword.

Thanks for the reply guys..one short question..how do you estimate the competition is tough??

most say that if the no. of results for "keyword" is less than 1,000,000 then its moderately competitive..some say that if its less than 50K then is easy..

      It gets quite confusing..

Hi, Again there is no definite answer for your question. I consider less than 25,000 count as less competition. Some people say 50,000 and some others 5,000.:p

I can recommend only my standards.

I would say that less than 10,000 is not a high competitive keyword, but you have to understand also one thing.

It doesn't matter if you have 500,000 or 50,000 competitors it matters who your competitors are.
I will give you an example.

Let's say that you wan't to rank for "web hosting".

        What do you think?
        Do you have a chance?
The first position has a website(4 years old)with I assume 100,000 or more backlinks,on-of page seo optimization...
Also other positions on the first page are quality websites.

Or even better when you must rank with google, yahoo, youtube, myspace, facebook for some keywords what do you think who will be on the first page, you or they?

Judge the keyword by the quality of your competitors!

Ya. you are right. It depends on the competitor. the keyword phrase I am targeting are quite easy i believe. The first results are just the natural shopping websites like shopping.com, yahoo shopping etc. But they have bad SEO url and the page have no backlinks..

Normally, even when you see 50000 competing sites returned by Google, click to the end of the last page listed at the bottom. In most cases you will find Google only returns less than 1000 pages as being relevant, and omits the rest of the pages.

I think you are up against only 1000 optimized pages to compete against most of the time, sometimes lots lesser.

The definitive answer is that NONE OF THESE ARE THE WAY TO GO ABOUT IT. You want to get on the first page at the top of Google to get traffic right? So forget all the in title yada, yada yada, stuff. Analyze the top ten. thats how you do it. Doesn't matter that there are 5,000 in title or 500,000. the only thing you should be looking at is the top ten results to see if you can rank. thats where the traffic is for any keyword so that where you look. period.

        Mike is correct.

If you want to know your competition for a keyword or phrase then there is only one method that can point out that competition for you.

In order to fully understand what I am about to say, you must STOP thinking like an IM and think like a consumer or user.

For example, If a consumer wants to buy an Apple IPad they might go to Google and type in: buy apple ipad

Thats it. No quotes, No InTitle, No InAnchor etc... just the keyword phrase.

Now those TEN websites that are listed on the first page of Google results for your keyword without quotes are .... (wait for it... wait for it...)

Those Ten Websites are your Competition.

There are not 7 million competitors. There are only TEN.

You need to Analyze those Ten Competitors and evaluate for yourself, If you think you are capable of putting in enough WORK to overtake them in the SERPs.

I started this thread more than 2 yrs ago..

    @Mike and Michael,
Thanks for your replies.. in these 2 years I have learned a lot and have realized that the number of competitors don't matter, its the quality that does.. Have successfully made my way into the top 10 as well..

and thanks for bumping an old thread of mine, made me realize how much I have grown in these years..
