Is using website submitters like imtalk.org worth it?

I came upon a post where someone mentioned using the website imtalk.org to get backlinks to his new site. Upon visiting the site I see that they will submit your website to 3000 other websites for free.

Is this even worth doing? I have a new authority site I want to build up and I don't want to risk damaging it with any newbie mistakes early on.

I assume the 3000 links will be of little value, and they will all appear fairly instantly which won't look overly natural.

I would love to hear your thoughts on whether sites like this are worth using to start getting backlinks for new authority sites, or if they do more harm than good.

I wouldn't recommend submitting your site on such a large scale, without having it tested first. I did the same thing with one of my sites once, it was on first page of Google. Then it was knocked straight off, took me about 2 weeks to a month to get it back.
Google will pickup on it.

The only tool I used at IMTalk.org is their RSS submitter. 20 Rss directories with PRs aren't that bad.

When you say submit your sites, do you know what type of sites? Directories? Blogs? Stats sites?

Typically focusing on QUALITY over QUANTITY is going to be your best bet though.

This is what their description says:

"IMT Website Submitter submits your website/blog to 3,000+ different places. All these 3,000+ websites are manly "who is", "about us", "website statistic", etc. type of services"

Also, I am making "Quality of Quantity" the mantra of this website. So unless people swoop in and provide a convincing explanation of why this should be done I will likely not risk it.

  It's not good because the links are worthless pr0 links on unrelated sites so it won't have a positive effect on your ranking.
  
  I've used the submitter before and it made no ranking difference plus hardly any of the links appeared in the backlink checker.

Submitting like this is unnatural to the engines. Steer clear and let Google find you. They will if you just build good backlinks.

If you want Google Love you must make your backlinks to be natural. Searching out popular blogs and posting comments, posting comments on popular videos on YouTube etc. is one way of doing what you want in a manner that will get your site ranking and keep it there.

LOL. I have ALWAYS used this on my youtube videos but youtube is different. You can get away with any type of backlinking with youtube.

My last site, which was the first new site I've been working on, I used this submitter. But I was also doing a lot of other stuff too, so I can't say the submitter caused my drop.

The site was on page 3 in 3 weeks. Afterwards it fell into the google abyss. But I have reason to believe it was a caching error the may have caused the problem.

My recommendation:

Its perfectly fine for youtube videos.
For websites, you really don't need it. There are better indexing tools that submit to better sites/search engines, and do it on a much smaller scale. They only submit to 20-30 different places. So I would stick with those instead, just to be safe.

Generating automatic backlinks using such automatic submitter will just assist you to get a penalty for your site. For getting better ranks in Search engine, you need superb quality content (Must be user and SEO friendly), lots of social shares and natural backlinks.
