Landing pages that are really long. Any good?

Sometimes when I search for a product, review, etc, I come across someone trying to sell that product. However, instead of having a website with numerous links about the product, they have one huge/long page, that scrolls and scrolls.

I'm getting into the CPA program and was wondering if this technique still works today. My plan is to use my domain (PR2 ranking), and use WordPress blog pages as landing pages. I will create a lenghty description of the product, with reviews, info, etc all on one page. Is this still an effective technique?

Thank you!

I think google likes pages with a lot of content, for a shop is better to have big pages with all the products than one page for product, because the bot could detect it as spam

I would go for a shorter page option.customers/clients get bored having to scroll down just to find what they are looking for.i try to keep my pages short and to the point with good content.

  • I always tell myself to keep everything short and direct to the point, visitors looking at your page might get boring unless your product is highly informational product... It always comes down to what is your product about and how does it attract your visitors to buy it!!

  • Good question Rod888,

The landing page should have the action you want the user to perform front and center and very obvious. Ideally the page should not scroll at all however sometimes this is unavoidable. I would definitely avoid one giant page. In cases where a little scrolling is unavoidable, the action you want visitors to perform should be above the fold.

Thanks for the feedback. If I am promoting a product from a CPA that has a return of $35 per sale, should I create a brand new website under a unique domain, or can I just use my current domain and create a page? It sounds like creating a new domain specifically for the product is the way to go, I'm just concerned about page rank being NA or 0 for a fresh domain.

It's better to have a targeted page with PR n/a or 0 than a high PR page that's all over the place.

That's not only true for big G but for your visitors too.

    Hi Rod,

Test EVERYTHING e.g. with a free plugin like (I use this one):

    WordPress › MaxA/B « WordPress Plugins

Long sales pages exist because they work - but in certain niches for certain target markets.

That's why testing different angles and monitoring the conversions result is essential.

It's best to find a middle solution - try to put as much content as you can on a web page, but still make it reasonably big. Nobody ones to scroll as hell through the page. And also, that increases the page's loading time.

I like how that site builds their email list. They don't just add a subscribe form in the sidebar, they build out the content page, then giveaway additional content (annotated PDF) in exchange for the email. They repeat the same annotated PDF process for most of their blog post, only each annotated PDF is based on each individual blog post subject (unique PDFs). This way they target a wider variety of people/traffic.

      Very clever list building.

Thanks for the feedback, all helpful responses. I think I will buy a domain specific to this product, and build around that. Thanks again.

Landing pages are usually used to redirect visitors when they click on ads and as you have stated, such materials are being primarily used to sell services and products to customers but it would be better to keep them smaller in size and not that long because there will be another problem in that case and as you can guess, that would be higher bounce rates. If potential customers of the products you are going to sell them find too many contents on one single pages, they will naturally not read all of them.

A better option would be allocating more pages to the contents, creating additional sets of web pages that deal with some other products, services and information and make the landing pages short, usually a few graphics with some text paragraphs would be enough. Always keep this point in mind that nearly everybody when visiting websites is in hurry and they will move to other sources should they feel a bit confused. Try to cover the top facts about products when making commercial pages.
