can you assist me with 301 redirect help

Hi there,

I am hoping you can assist me as this is a new territory to me.

I have redesigned one of my old sites from a html site to using affiliate genie and as a result i want any old urls redirecting to what the new url is for each site page.

My question is when you are doing 301 redirects do you need to have the old pages uploaded on your website and if you do wouldn't that be duplicate content for every page? Or do you upload the original pages but delete the content on it so it isn't duplicate content?

I am trying to instruct my va so any help you can assist me with, I'd be so grateful.

    No, the old pages don't need to exist.

    All your doing is redirecting one URL to another URL.

    Create or edit a text file named ".htaccess" in the root folder of your domain.

    Put the rules in this file as so:

    Code:
    Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.example.com/newpage.html
Redirect 301 /oldpage2.html http://www.example.com/anotherpage.html
    Note that after the "Redirect 301", the first thing to come is the path (not URL) of the old page, and the second is the URL (not path) to redirect to.

    Can i ask you one more thing, i have recreated the site with affiliate genie that inside the dashboard creates the content as a php file but turns it into seo friendly urls such as colleen.com/visit-this-site-here

    would the new url be the php url do you think or just the one that is on the site as the last url there?
