Hello there

A client of mine is facing an interesting issue but i would like to know if this is a penalty or a ban.

I created backlinks for a client of mine , for a low competition keyword , i took the website from page to page 1 in a mounth, position in page one was 5-6.
This was in july-august.
For almost 2-3 weeks thill Today , i stopped creating backlinks , because the client asked me too.
Everything ok , the website reached TOP 1 , 1 position for almost 2 weeks and after this the website was sent to page 20 , then to page 50 , and today to page 70.
All links are in pages 70-80.
When i check with domain name , all links APPEAR.
When i check with SeoQuake , it shows me that the domain i'm talking about has 0 indexed pages (what's wrong, because all the PAGES EXISTS,when i check it with the domain name)

So i run , as the client told me too, some blog comments, in a few hours the website went from page 70 to 58.

Question is , is this google dance , sandbox , or penalty? (no warnings was sent to the e-mail address).

This website never faced google dance before, all backlinks have flexible ANCHOR TEXTS , backlinks were created a few per day, with variety names, all data changed every time.

#google #page #sandbox

    I don't know what happened.

All I know for a fact and have learned through the years is that you just can not rely on the search engines for endless traffic. Too many people rely on it and I can tell you that they will lost out.

      Yeah i know that , but it's really wierd , because :

Ban = no more domain , when you search it
Sandobx = site jumped from page 20 to 50 , one link was still at page 17.

There are smart people here, i know that i will find the answer

I had a similar problem with my site when I started working on certain keywords even though the domain was aged they keywords were not worked on and they raced to the front only to dive way back. Then a steady climb.

I think it could be a Google dance. If you started your campaign in July then Google may be unsure where to put your pages yet. But that, indeed, is weird.

      Hi artse,

What you are experiencing is called the freshness factor. Internally, Google refers to it as QDF (Query Deserves Freshness). To ensure that searchers can find fresh timely information, they will temporarily boost the rankings of fresh new content. After this temporary rankings boost wheres off, your page's rank will sink to it's truly earned ranking.

This is normal rankings fluctuation, all experienced SEO practitioners will come to expect such rankings shifts due to the freshness factor. It is not the Google dance, it is not the Sandbox, it is not anything except QDF, the temporary freshness factor boost.

As you create backlinks, in the form of new content, you are getting short term rankings boost from that new content. To establish more permanent rankings you will need to continue to promote your content, and as it earns trust over time, your real rankings will improve.

      Hi LeoTran,

No, not just new websites, new content, regardless of the age of the website.

Search engines do not rank websites, they rank web pages. Any new web page may experience the temporary boost of QDF. And furthermore, new content that is temporarily boosted can also pass temporarily boosted link juice to the older pages that they directly link to.

Got it! thank you so much
So what i have to do , is to continue creating backlinks and add from time to time fresh content , correct?

Have you used the same anchor text from the last time you did your link building, or you diversified the anchor text from the time you have been buried in SERP? I think the Penguin slapped you, you said you are not deindexed yet your backlinks are gone. Like continue to build relevant backlinks and diversify you anchor text.

If it's been a few weeks, I would say that you have been penalized. I would think a dance would show movement in a positive direction by this time.

I have the same problem with my website, I was doing well then it dropped to page 70 and its been there for months now. I am thinking I have a anchor text penalty. look into the correct way to build an anchor text profile. As my anchor text profile is terrible and I'm thinking that's why I got penalized.

        just something to look into

If it's still indexed, it's not in the "sandbox". There was another big algorithm update few know about on 21 Feb that might have caused this. Try changing the meta tags and make sure they're not over-optimized. You might also want to check the quality of the content, readability and keyword usage throughout the posts/pages.

Trial and error. Keep trying new solutions until you find the problem. If you've been building links constantly since july/august last year as suggested and suddenly stopped, that could also have triggered this.

If it's on page #70 then it's not Sandboxed (Google say the Sandbox doesn't exist). Sites are constastly moving in SERPs so give it time to settle.

I'd give it a few days.
