Should you wait a few months to build backlinks to a new niche site?

I am launching a bunch of niche sites and I am going to fill them all with content but they will start out thin.

If I build links right away will that raise flags in Google and if it does will that settle later?

I have EMDs and I don't want to ruin their potential to rank just for being an EMD by un-natural backlinking methods.

I know how to write quality spintax but if a site starts with a small amount of content and suddenly has a massive amount of backlinks what (from your experience) would you expect Google to do.

I have a membership to Bring the Fresh and I've learned a lot of stuff that's good whether or not I use their blackhat/greyhat methods I've definitely gotten my value from them anyways but I don't want to screw over my niche sites' potential to rank well (they are EMDs to begin with so in theory if I simply build them into authority sites they will naturally rank well)

Ideally if I could get my niches to the first result on page one of Google for my exact keywords I think I would be making tons of money.

What do y'all think?

Thanks.

Add content then build links. Red flag if you're building links to a site with no content (ie. who's going to share or link to a site with not content?).. I mean you can still build backlinks just don't go crazy with it and similar to your content start small and scale up over time. Ideally what works for me is building trust first, by posting content every day. Then once my new content starts getting indexed fast, I start building backlinks faster/harder.

10-4 on that. I guess it'd be a good idea to pre-write content for each site and schedule the publish dates ahead of time so new content is added daily without missing a day. I could still add even more content on any specific day but at least no days would be missed.

I'm going to give what you said a try (building backlinks faster once the site grows but not really building them like crazy until I have more content).

      Thanks for the tips.

Oops! Gave the "quick reply" button a try (never tried it before) post didn't do what I thought it would do. This was written in response to Weedy92 (and a bunch of new posts showed up in the time I wrote it so I will respond to them now)...

Here's the way i go about it, which should also save you a bit of cash:

Rather than creating a load of content for each site, only to then spend time on money backlinking it, and not getting it to rank. Instead, create 1 piece of content for each site which will be the home page. Set up your privacy, about us, and contact us pages, but your only valuable piece of content will be the homepage. Start backlinking it immediately.....as soon as it's published. Don't worry about penalties etc, i've done this with hundreds of sites and never had an issue. Don't suddenly blast 100,000 scrapbox comments in one day, start of slow and steady with whatever back linking solution you choose. I typically start of with a few hundred social bookmarks, directory listings, and article blasts. So a few hundred submissions each day for a few days, then scale your backlinking up a bit from then on.

Typically, after about 5 days, i'd expect to see that my site has been indexed, and i'd expect to see it within the first few pages of google. I only then expand the site with more content once it's ranked within the first 2 pages.

Did you use EMDs or non EMDs?

      smallbusinesstoolkit

What directories do you recommend submitting to? (Are you using the well known ones like EZA/Article Dashboard/etc. or ones that are "mom and pop" type article directories)

Do you set up a new set of social profiles to promote each site or use one set and "like" each site one time from each profile?

Do you think Google considers original articles (no spintax) submitted to directories as spam? How do you generate your backlinks without spamming?

I don`t submit to article directories as they are a bit fussy with accepting new articles .I had better results adding my blog post/articles to social bookmarking websites.
I use one profile for one website.
Also : convert your articles to screencast videos and post them on youtube, vimeo etc as they get indexed quicker and you will have less competition for ranking.

  • It will not raise flags if you do it the right way.

First you can add it to directories - it is slow , because approving your listings and indexing them will take a while (from few days to few weeks)so you don`t need to worry about doing it to fast.Do it for about 1 week.

After that sign to as many social bookmarking sites as you can , use firefox addthis addon.
Create a blog to every website , if your website are not blogs .

Share every new post on social bookmarking sites (1-2 weeks).
Create Twitter , Pinterest , Linkedin and FB profile.
Share this posts on them as well (1 week).
Post comments on good blogs(1 week).

Your backlinks will be like a planted seeds ,it will take a bit time to grow.
    You have built some foundations.
After that you can use some automated tools , backlink bulders, etc.
Google just needs to see constant, steady increase of amount your backlinks.

You don't need to wait with building links, you can start right away, even if it's just a blank page, Google won't penalize you for it. Just make sure to avoid all the spam and cancel that worthless membership, all the info is here for free.

Hi Matt, You and me are similar. I have been researching internet marketing for years but only recently started putting what I learned into action, too.

I suggest you build you sites with contents and well-optimized OnPage SEO first and do internal linking system well. Let Google index them naturally by submitting your sites to GWT. Then start building links after 2-3 months of launching. One of my EMD ranking #1 with only 1 page with high-quality content. Beating several aged, well-established websites for that keyword. I just have 2 websites, 1 PR7 and 1 PR6, pointing to that EMD. That's it.

Do your EMDs ever rank (for the keyword) within those 2-3 months before you've built any backlinks?

When you mention internal linking do you have a "hierarchy" structure for your site similiar to a family tree (I've heard Google likes that navigation structure the most) or are you by chance referring to in-context links to other pages on your site?

I don't see a reason to wait, just don't be too forward out of the gate with the number you build. Start small, and build toward larger amounts as time goes on.

Today EMD is not that weigh much on search engine, though they help but it's not like before. You can build links but in a minimum counts, it will only raise red flag if you are blasting a thousand links in a day.

bro, I have one article (including the anti spam, contact, privacy, disclaimer, term of use pages) on a few (4) of my Adsense websites and they are one pages 1 and two (and I haven't start making social bookmarks, web 2.0 and the other common backlinks yet), so I don't think that content is such a big deal when you're just starting to rank your websites. Even though I know that my websites will rank alot better with two or more articles.

I start ranking my websites as soon as the an articles is use as the front page.

Just start by creating a few number of backlinks to your site, for instance, if your site is a few days old, start with 3-5 links per day and increase the number of backlinks with time. Bookmarking your newly created pages is the key to get indexed. Make sure you stay consistent and add quality content to the site...

I usually add some initial content (3-5 articles), wait for them to be indexed (maybe help it with some social bookmarks), and then start proper link building.

If you don't blast the site with unnecessarily large amounts of links, you should be good.

Nope, don't worry about building links to fast. Just build quality links.

Don't spam your website with Xrumer blast or anything like that.

Keep it slow and steady, preferably contextual links.

Yes you can build your links from the moment you have provided content on your site. And try to update or add content frequently and without spamming. There is no way you cannot build links to a new site.Expose your content and start your work.
