  • Grettcs,

You will want to build backlinks based on the keywords on the relevant pages. For instance if one page’s keyword is “buy widgets”, you will want to build relevant backlinks to that specific page. A backlink for this example keyword might be found in an article about widgets placed on a web 2.0 site leading back to that specific page where the keyword can be found. Not only is this good SEO but it creates a seamless user experience. A person who finds that article in search is reading it, then sees the anchor text for your keyword or a synonym of it, and expects to find more information related to what it was they clicked on.

Inner pages are really no different than your home page. They often get less attention because a home page is linked to the most and novices figure if you do SEO on the home page then the rest of the site is set. To a search engine, each page is unique and each page can rank for its own keywords. Focus on building a page around each target keyword that you have (as you have already done). It is best to match the page’s content with the keyword you are using.

Well, the way I see it there are two ways:

    1) You focus mainly on linking the homepage and creating a brand. When you reach a certain level of authority, like a strong PR5 or PR6, your inner pages will be ranking for a myriad of queries, especially the ones that stand out from your internal optimization.

    2) Build backlinks for every page you build. That can work too, but you have to be very careful due to the new algo changes. If you build too many keyword based anchor text backlinks you risk a sitewide penalty when Penguin refreshes and you may be stuck in sandbox a very long time.
