Geo targeting a Website

Anyone have any opinions/ideas on this please?....

I have a site www.blahblah-centre.com which will be targeted at all English speaking countries and I have also bought the domain www.blahblah-center.com which is the American spelling. I don't know whether to

1. Run both sites and use a href lang tag to divert users from different locations
2. Run both sites concurrently with the .....center.com site set to target the US. This will mean developing unique content for both sites
3. Just sack all that and stick a redirect on the american spelling version

Any other ideas? Thanks in advance..

    1. what is your keyword? Check it on Google Adwords tool keyword.
    2. Choose one of them and setup on google webmaster your Geographic target, and Preferred domain.

Run one site. Have translation tools on there to give the visitor options, avoid using Google's translation tool if possible.. As well for some reason Google has been giving more authority to sites running mutiple languages.. A few case studies on this online. Go with this type of setup:

    yoursite.com/en (English)
yoursite.com/xx (Use the correct shortened language format)

The best setups I've seen with the best results, translate your own content in these diffrent sections with diffrent posts for each language. Sure you'll have to translate the content for diffrent languages yourself, but there's a lot of value I've seen recently from doing this.

Thanks Harvey, yeah I've been edging toward this format, the more I've thought about it. I'll just stick a redirect on the American spelling version and use href lang tags to divert each geo and language specific visitor to their respective language versions.

Thanks for the help anyway, I hadn't heard that more weight was being given to multi-lingual sites!

If you have city based keywords then citation can help a lot, ask your client about their preferred region and try to get links from similar region. Find local business directories and do submission to them along with Google (Local Listing) and Yelp.
